Hunger Pains?

Hi everyone!

So as of tomorrow I am 3 weeks post op. Minus the normal ups and downs its been a smooth recovery.

I haven't had any additional cravings and minus some food boredom have been fine...until last night.

I ended up catching a second wind and stayed up much later than I normally do. (damn you netflix!) I didn't snack and kept up with my water. But as I finally got tired I started getting what I would describe as hunger pains. I remember them from diets of starving myself. Like your stomach is contracting and you have about 5 seconds of discomfort and then it goes away. Last night I wasn't too concerned cause I was up a solid 7 hours after my last meal/protein.

But the pains have continued into today. When I do eat it goes away. But only for about an hour or maybe 2 hours, then they return.

Today is my first day starting some minced foods and my protein goals have been met (or will be for today as I keep on track)

Any suggestions?

I don't feel anything is wrong, but anyone who has been here done that with some suggestions would be lovely.

Hi Jen,

I haven't had any pain like this, but didn't get that before surgery either. I think you should use your best judgment to decide if you think it's normal for you, or requires investigation. You're pretty recently out of surgery. If you think it's just hunger pain, maybe increasing liquids can help? Or spacing out your food? If you aren't sure if it's hunger, maybe you need to be checked out?

Hopefully someone else has something better to offer you. Maybe post on the general board as there are more people with more experiences who may have something to offer. Good luck and feel better!

Sorry I'm not much help as I don't know exactly but is it possible it's acid related? The only time I ever got heartburn/indigestion before surgery was when it had been way too many hours between meals. I just wonder because of the length of time you went without eating and then it returned quickly after eating today. Almost like while the acid had something to feed on it is fine then returns? Don't know if that makes sense but possibly. Did they give you a script for an antacid after surgery?

I wasn't given any antacids minus the one I need to take first thing in the AM.

Today my pouch seems to be temperamental. I couldn't finish the breakfast I've been finishing with no problems the last few days.

I have my 4 week appt on Wednesday so I will be sure to discuss it with the nurse.

I'm just over 2 weeks post op. I also feel the hunger pains (faint but there). I found that if I divide my meals in half (as small as they are) and eat every 2 hours the hunger pains seem to vanish. Keeping up with your liquids will also help.
