Can you chew gum considering you are pre op? If you MUST chew...go ahead and chew some gum (don't forget to spit it out!) and go for walks.
I too went to bed early very often, LOL Seems to be a theme here!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
