i am 2 1/2 yrs out and have lost a total of 78lbs. real slow loser here. it does have to do with PCOS I just got a job as a mail man (or woman lol) and do nothing but walking routes. i have been working for 6 weeks and have lost 16lbs.  eating a lot less and walking all day.  with PCOS you have to do ton's more work then regular people.  It took me 2 yrs to figure that out but i did.  move more eat a lot less. thats all we can do.

Topic: PCOS and Fertility questions( TMI and Kinda long)
I am 7 months post op now, so I am in no way trying to conceive yet. My Hubby and I practice safe sex. Now I do have some questions though:

I was taken off of my Glucophage because I am no longer considered insulin resistant. I have been getting a normal (28-30 day) cycle now since August. Still I wondered if I was actually ovulating so I bought the Answer ovulation test strips in a 20 quanity to see if I would ovulate. I had my period on March 13th and started testing the day after my period was done. I tested clear through March 26th and lord and behold two very dark lines came up and from reading the box it states that I should ovulate within 24-48 hours. I was so happy to know I am actually ovulating after all. I don't know if I have ovulated in over 10 years now since I was first diagnosed with PCOS. Well anyways, everything was great until I started spotting brownish blood only three days after I was ovulating on March 30th. My period isn't due until April 11th. It started out only when I wiped, very faint and not a normal flow. I noticed what appeared as uterine tissue in the toliet. I have been spotting since then so now for close to 9 days. Still no real flowing period. I called my OBGYN's office and the Nurse told me to take a pregnancy test. I told her that I wasn't due for my period until April 11th and that we were not trying to conceive, we are being very careful. I did what she told me to however, and it came up NOT Pregnant on the test.

My question is this: Is it normal to have  bleeding after you ovulate? She feels I have anovualtion, but then why did my test strip come up positive for ovualtion? I have never had tissue and browinish blood when wiping before and I have had a normal period cycle now for 8 months. Is it normal for your body to go through this after loosing so much weight and does this mean my body is trying to get back to a normal pattern to ovulate? This past month is the only month I have tested myself for ovulation and it's the only month were I have spotted and had these symptoms before my actual period date was due. Did anyone here have this happen to them? Thanks for any advice or information on what you feel could be happening.

Could be all those things- you may have not lost because you had been retaining water etc premenstrually and now some of that is lost,

met seemed to control my appetite a little more but didn't affect my matabolism- but who knows could have been a perfect storm of things

Anyway-glad you are losing again,

Topic: RE: PCOS and RNY
my period returned to normal the very next month, i hadnt had a cycle on my own in over 3 years prior to surgery! no new skin tags since surgery. I had dark skin patches on my neck and one on my face under my lip, all completely disappeared after losing the first 40-50 lbs. Energy level shot up and definitely be careful if you've had fertility issues, i was told i would not conceive without medical intervention and here i am 6 months pregnant w/out any medical help!
Goodluck with your surgery, if u have any questions dont hesitate to hit me up and add me as a friend =)

Topic: Hi everyone (newbie here)
Well, I won't type much, but I wanted to say Hi. I am Tanya, and I have my make-or-break visit with Dr. Michael Barker (Portsmouth Naval in VA) on Monday, April 12th, and hopefully will have my surgery in late April or early May. I have been dealing with PCOS for many years, but of course, being in the military myself, now having my husband in the navy and now myself being a civilian, I didn't always have the best medical care. I am having surgery to, ONE, get rid of PCOS so that eventually I will have a child, TWO, to get healthy for myself and to be able to live up to my potential, and THREE, I am sick of taking SO many meds to control the PCOS, so it's to have my body be able to do its thing on its own-without a lot of meds.

After having a really bad childhood, I was always really thin-until I got out of my bad situation. I started to gain weight, and never had a regular cycle. I never thought too much about it until I was married and wanted to have a baby. I have now been married for 7.5 years, and can't wait to have a child. I have lost 2 babies-one was conceived with Clomid, and one a spontaneous conception. I will be having the RNY, after going through the vetting process since the beginning of December 2009 (Dr. Hain, the WLS program mental health specialist, wanted to ensure I had proper coping skills given my pretty horrid past and this has been my greatest roadblock-getting appointments to civilian providers. through Tricare takes FOREVER).

I hope to have fun in this group-and I am glad to be here.

Topic: Am I the only one?
At one point my periods were back on track, after I stopped taking Clomid and Provera. They came for about 5 months. Like clock work. It was SOOO nice to actually be able to say, yep, AF will be coming this weekend. But it only lasted 5 months. Now I am back to square 1. I haven't had af since January.
AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT RNY HASN'T HELPED WITH THE PCOS?

Topic: RE: Dr. thinks I might have....
Hi Catnip,
My dr. suggested i get vsg because there is no malabsorption because i'm anemic already and it could get worse with a surgery like the DS and that with him not knowing that I might have PCOS back then, in dec. 08.
Also, I'm not even sure I have PCOS yet, i'm just beginning my testing (ultrasound 3 weeks ago) and have to get my test results in May ( my dr. wants to see me) .  I will know pretty soon and will keep you all updated...
Thanks
Anne
