Topic: PCOS and Metformin Question
I am POST RNY 4 months and my dr. took me off my MET the day after surgery. My period has sort of regulated but, the weight is not comming off very fast and my other symptoms such as facial hair, and the dark ring aroung the neck are not getting any better. Should I get my hormone levels tested to see if I should be back on Met???? Any info would be great

The cause of your symptoms is insulin resistance caused by the PCOS and yes the Met will help. When the Doc's took me off my met I gained weight almost every day and all my other symptoms got A LOT worse. Just start with a low dose and use the minimum to stabilize your weight. Good luck with this I KNOW your misery.

body/facial hair
irregular/missing periods
cysts on ovaries
abdominal weight
easy weight gain
hard to lose weight
insulin resistance (pre-diabetes)
infertility
male pattern hair loss
dark patches of skin
skin tags
increased testosterone levels

Please keep in mind that as PCOS is a syndrome, you do not have to have ALL symptoms to have it. Weight loss does seem to help out with many of the symptoms, but there is no cure.

Topic: Newbie Question re: co-morbidities
Hello Everyone.  I'm currently in the  process of getting approval for a "sleeve".  My BMI is 38, which Fed employeesBCBS require BMI of 40 or 35 with co-morbidities.  I have PCOS, hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), Impaired Fasting Glucose (pre-diabetes) w/family history of diabetes.  Wondering if any one has been successful with insurance with such co-morbidities.  Thanks much.

I dont have any signs of PCOS currently other than extremely high insulin levels (IR) but incredibly hard time losing (hence considering surgery) and already follow a LC diet... now I am scared I will go through surgery and still not lose.... PCOS/IR makes things soooo hard
