Topic: RE: facial hair
Hi all,
I have PCOS and posed this question to my endocrinologist, who is the coordinator of all my pre-surg requirements and follow-ups. He said WLS would do nothing to stop my facial hair growth and that only laser treatments or electrolysis could.

Topic: RE: Good news, I hope...
I found out I had pcos two and a half years ago but I had a feeling I had it for much longer. I also had wls in hopes of improving my chance of getting pregnant. I will go in to see my endo soon to see how my weight loss has effected my pcos.
I have had laser hair removal. It is amazing. Worth every dime! It is painful and you have to have more treatments do to the pcos but I recommended it to everyone. Good Luck!

Hello. Looked like I had written this post for a minute.
I, too, was diagnosed w/ PCOS in 2005. I was also diagnosed w/ endometriosis @ 15. Sounds like you may have one or both. After my surgery, I have my monthly friend, monthly. I had never had that before w/o the help of BC. Your dr will probably put you on Metformin and BC to help regulate your cycle. The Metformin made me sick & I did lose 25 lbs in the process. So, that's a plus. Are your periods painful? Mine are VERY painful even now. I believe that I still have PCOS, but w/o the insulin resistance. I can tell when I have an ovary that has turned into a cyst. There's a lot of pain associated w/ it. I have dealt w/ this since I was 15 and I will be 36 next month and I've had 2 children & we've adopted one also, and yes they told me that I was infertile. Especially since when there was 13 yrs in between my pregnancies. So, don't listen to them if they say you won't have children. Only GOD knows and it doesn't hurt to talk to Him either.
Be blessed & good luck.

Wow, I am glad to know that I am not the only one with this problem. I actually just got my period at the end of july and it lasted until about september 4th. And i had to literally push/deliver the bloodclots too. It is so gross and worrysome. I called me doc and she gave me progesterone to stop the bleeding because i am slightly anemic so loosing that much blood is deff. not good. needless to say the period came back after i was done the one week supply of them and was on my period very heavily for my surgery but no big blood clots. ur not alone on this one i know how it feels!!
I was told when i was 19 that i would not be able to have kids on my own without some form of fertility drugs, at that time i was diagnosed with PCOS. When i was twenty i went back for my annual and she put me on birthcontrol to regulate my cycle so that when i was ready to get pregnant it might be easier if the bc could get my periods regulated. anyway, i took them for a month and then forgot to pick up the refill from the pharmacy and guess what i got pregnant. So, there is hope there is even more hope with the weight loss. have you had your RNY already?!

Topic: RE: IUD before kids?
They were going to just put it in while they had me under during my D&C, but I had to have an emergency D&C on Monday and it wasn't my Dr it was his partner who did it and she wasn't prepared to insert the IUD during surgery! SO...that leaves me with the suffering through it.
I go back to my Gyno in two weeks for post op and he'll let me know then when he's going to put in the IUD!

Keep your head up I am in pretty much the same situation as you. I was diagnosed with PCOS very recently and I am considered to be super obese too. I would like to tell you though I have a beautiful 3 year old son. I concieved during a time where I had been losing a ton of weight and was about 185 lbs so losing some weight would definately give you a greater chance of concieving. Definately go to see an OBGYN though they will get you on some sort of birth control and eventually it will even your hormones out and you should have a more "normal" period. I think that the reason your periods are so bad is because you have them so far apart there ends up being like this huge build up. Just keep your head up!
Topic: RE: IUD before kids?
i had one put in last year and I have never had kids. I hurt like you wouldn't believe. My doctor said it would be 5-10 seconds of cramping. OH NO!!!!!!, it was more like 5-10 minutes of sheer agony. My friend who got one a couple of months after me has a son 15 years ago and she said giving birth was less pain.
Now that I have completely scared you, I would do it again. Now that it is in I do not have worry about anything for 5 years. You will be in pain, but it is well worth it in my book. I suggest taking a lot of ibuprofen (if you can) about 30 minutes prior. They also say it is best to get it done while you are on your period (although a little gross) because you are more dialated.
Thanks
Sheri

so i am in the super obese category, according to BMi charts, and my periods are months apart. for example, i am on my period right now and my last one was during the week of january 20th. thats 7 months! it's always been like this, but what im worried about is when i have my period (heres the gross part) i push out huge, jelly -like clumps of blood. one was so big once it actually almost fit the palm of my hand, almost. but its literally like i dumped chunks of canned cranberry sauce in my underwear.
so i guess my question is does anyone else get this?
i have never been to the obgyn but i am planning to real soon. im bracing my self for "you can never have kids" but i think it's obviously just my weight.
thanks!
