Topic: Has anyone been diagnosed with PCOS AFTER WLS?
Hi-
I use to be a regular a OH before my surgery in 2006. I did really well for the first 2 years dropping almost 200lbs. After that, I had some major health issues that included treatment with steriods. With steriod use, weight started creeping back. I've now gained almost 87lbs in just over a year and have been diagnosed with PCOS. Has anyone else been diagnosed AFTER surgery? I wonder if I should have revision surgery in hopes it reverses the PCOS.

I also only have one working falopian tube and ovary. My gyno said that it works fine but I have never had a regular cycle so I am just wondering if anyone has had a similar expereince??

Topic: RE: Dark skin around neck
The only thing I have found to clean really good around the darkness is rubbing alcohol. Does anybody use something else? soap and washrag isn't doing the job. Should I be putting lotion? would that help?
Topic: RE: Dark skin around neck
I can totally relate with everyone about the dark skin patches, and skin tags. I was Diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18, but my Dr. said that I have probably had it since I hit puberty at 11. I feel so ashamed and dirty about the black ring on my neck and the 3 skin tags I have there too. When I was younger I never Knew what the dark ring was from and I would try everything to scrub it off! I used to scrub so hard my skin would be blood red and raw. Now that I am older and know what it is caused by I am just hoping that it will go away after my RNY in a few months.

Hi,
First wanted to say congrats on the weight loss so far!
All of your back and forth feelings are completely normal, especially given your age and how "older" women are so medicalzed when it comes to pregnancy even without surgery or weight issues.
Definitely go on the b/c now until you have stopped losing the weight so quickly and then decide on whether you'd want to try for a pregnancy.
A lot of women on the pregnancy board have said that the Mirena IUD has worked very well for them. Helped reduce periods, flow and intensity and been quite safe. Even women with PCOS. Maybe ask your doctor about it. I'm going to for after I have the baby.
Best of luck!
Alison

Topic: RE: 2 Questions - PCOS & Tubal - PCOS & Breastfeeding?
I have heard of some of those issues with just having the tubal - not tied into also having PCOS. I did not have any issues following my tubal.
I have heard the issues with breastfeeding and supply (not quality). If you are interested in breastfeeding, I would say go for it. And deal with the other stuff *if* it is an issue for you.

Topic: RE: might I have PCOS? help - what to ask my doc
I would highly recommend getting this book from the Library "Living with PCOS". There is a list of labs that are normally run to check for PCOS. It lists the "normal- normal range" and "normal range" used by doctors that may actually indicate PCOS. I would make a copy of that page and take it into your doctors and ask for that bloodwork to be done. then when the results come back in ask your doctor for a copy of the results - not just read off to you- but an actual copy. Review it with your doctor and compare it to the book.
Unfortunately for many with PCOS, your blood work shows you within the "normal range", but generally at the higher end. Also with being in the higher end of normal on more than a few of the tests, when put together could indicate PCOS.
I would also check out soulcysters.com .

Topic: RE: does pcos go away?
I think some of your symptoms could lessen. For me the biggest change has been a regular cycle.
I would check out soulcysters.com for more information on PCOS. There are smaller/skinnier women that have PCOS as well, so it is not just something that is found in overweight women nor does it automatically cause excess weight gain.

Topic: RE: does pcos go away?

Im having surgery in 10 days and no i havent talked to my dr since the consultation a year ago. I was going through the admissions process the other day at the hospital and the nurse brought it up. Till then it never occured to me that i may have it. I have showed several drs the boils during my yearly exam and none of them seemed to be worried aobut it. As long as it wasnt an std i didnt really care. Just thought i had lots of ingrown hairs over the years not that i shave all that much.
