Topic: RE: which WLS is best for PCOS?
I am just beginning the process of getting approved, etc. This post was awesome! I have PCOS with insulin resistance and have been trying to decide between RNY and VSG. I'm really leaning toward the RNY and these posts have really helped. I need to lose roughly 160 pounds. My problem isn't having a period, it's having them all the time. This one started Dec. 30th. Granted it's not extremely heavy or bad cramps, but it sure does get old! everyday....ugh!
Topic: RE: I got my period!!!!

Hey there I would like to announce I GOT MY PERIOD TOO!! I had lap RNY Nov 17th and I have not had a period since the summer time. I never keep track because they come whenever and however they want. They usually last about a month...Well it came on last week and this week it is gone....and it was not the heaviest either...am I going to be normal?? OMG I hope so!

Wow i am in awe at how much people have lost so quicky with the RNY. It's really hard for me to losw weight because of my insulin resistance but i have renewed hope. I have about 120 pounds to lose and I'm hoping to have surgery in the may/june time frame. i'm definitely leaning more towards RNY now; so thanks for all of your help. Keep the opinions coming! I love all of the different stories and situations. I can't get enough information on it! I'm also terrified of gaining it back so i'd love to know how hard it is to keep off!

I have PCOS and I went with RNY and am very glad I did. My friend also has it and went with the band about the same time. We are close to the same height (she's and inch shorter than me and an apple while I'm a pear if that makes a difference) and both needed to lose about 130 pounds so it was a pretty good comparison. We are now 7 months out and here are the results. I am down 116 pounds, feel great, and I have no dietary/digestive issues if I eat what I am supposed to. She is down 42 pounds, feels "pretty good", but has a lot of problems with "sticking". My periods are like clockwork now without having to take progesterone. She is also getting more regular. But she does say she wishes she'd gone with RNY now. Not so mush for the weight loss as for the eating issues. She constantly worried about regurg and won't eat out because of it. So, while it's very case specific, I'd definitely have to reccomend RNY over the band. I did have some complications at the start but they resolved within the first month and I haven't had any issues since. Good luck. Oh...also I am 28 and she's 25 if that helps

I just about did! Mine was in the 200s I think when I began this process. Next time I had it checked it was 55. Gotta love it!

This is not a my surgery is better than yours type of post, so please don't take it as such. I just wanted to give info on diabetes results with the DS. The DS has a higher cure rate than with the Lap-band and RnY. I want you to know all the facts and it really upsets me that doctors only push those 2 options. My advice RESEARCH!!! You and you alone are your best advocate.

Topic: RE: InsuLite?
Hi,
I took Insulite for about six months before my surgery. I really really liked it. It seemed to help everything with PCOS. I would spend the money again. And yes there are alot of capsules that you have to take several times a day, but well worth it.

not to hijack the thread but triglycerides at 55!? if mine get that low I think my doc would pass out...maybe me too! I'm in the 300s down from the 500s.
Topic: RE: Nuvaring vs. the pill
I had no luck with the nuvaring for embarassing reasons I posted in another thread a while back. Anyway I currently am doing the aygestin (SP?) type method, doesn't work for birth control, but gives you a period. I also have the mental issues with hormones so it's hard for me to find a pill that works. I also get sick easily from the hormones so if it's too strong I puke. :-P
