Topic: RE: Pregnancy after WLS
I went from very infertile to fertile after my RNY. I went through 8 years of failed fertility treatments before my WLS. I was clomid resistant and responded poorly to injectables. After surgery I got pregnant at 16 months post op the 1st month trying. Then last year got pregnant again for the 2nd time our 1st month trying. Good luck trying when it's your time!! If you have questions...I'd be happy to answer them as best I can!

Topic: RE: Need Advice
I was wondering how your visit with the dr. went? I just happened to read your story and I remember trying to figure this whole thing out... Well first, to answer your question above, an ENDOCRINOLOGIST is a doc that specializes in the treatment of hormones- and PCOS is a hormonal disorder for sure!!
As the other ladies have mentioned, you definitely need to see an ob/gyn or an endocrinologist. From being diagnosed with this disease at 12 years old by an endocrinologist, my opinion is endo first, ob/gyn next. The #1 tellsign of having PCOS is through a fasting test... to measure hormones in your system... it tells exactly what your hormones do after a meal (insulin most important, etc- a good doc will also check your testosterone levels(T4 & Free), estrogen, lh/fsh ratio- basically a gang of hormones to help solidify a PCOS diagnosis).
So did your doc suggest anything? Any more tests? A referral? Anything? Not to be so much in your business... I guess I just heard all your symptoms and immediately was curious. If you dont care to share, I just hope it all goes well for you....

Hi! I am a newbie here and saw your response. I am now on 2250mg of Metformin and I have only lost two lbs since Oct 08. Were you approved right away because you have PCOS or did you have to be on a supervised diet for 6 months?
Topic: RE: which WLS is best for PCOS?
Unfortunately my insurance only covers the bypass or the band. And the area i live in only has those 2 available at this time. I will continue to do my research as I have about 2 months before my 6 month period is over.

If your BMI is below 40 then you need 2 co morbidities in most states. Go online to your states medicare policy and look at the guidlines. Some states will not approve for BMI less than 40. I live in NC. My friend had gastric bypass and she said she had to do the 6 month supervised diet.

I had the duodenal switch and I am thrilled. I have regular periods since surgery, my cholesterol (which wasn't all that bad before at 176) is 93, I have lost 73 pounds in just over 3 months, and I am feeling great. Look into ALL your options - there are more surgeries than RNY and band!
I think the malabsorptive procedures are better for those of us with truly whacked metabolism, which I believe most PCOSers have.

Have you thought about VSG? Thats what I had, and I am really happy with it.

Thanks so much for your help. When i started down this path I was going for lapband, but am now seriously thinking of switching to bypass. i was a little scared about how restrictive it is as I do enjoy a beer and a Diet Pepsi once in a while :) However, after meeting with my dietician i am getting the feeling that gastric bypass may be the best choice for my insulin resistance, PCOS, and high blood pressure. So anything you can share about your experience is always welcome. People around me keep reminding me of the risks of bypass and that may be freaking me out a bit.

I don't know if you are askin me or not but I will put my 2 cents in.
I have a higher BMI but no other health issues and my insurance never told me y they approved me they just did but I have no doubt in my mind that my Polly helped me get approved. And yes I take Metformin and I am on 1,000 mg a day and it has helped I feel
