Hi hazelsmrf and welcome to the board.

If you're looking to get your surgey in the public health system, then yes, unfortunately a physician's referral is a must. However, if you're willing to pay to have it done outside of the RAMQ, then you might not need a referral - my surgeon didn't require one. I know how hard it is not having a family doctor and having to rely on walk-in clinics. All I can suggest is that you keep trying to find a doctor willing to write you a referral. Also, don't forget that post-op you will need to be followed by a physician for your blood tests.

Happy Holidays!

I'm currently in the information gathering phase,  and I'd like to know,  how to get the ball rolling and get my name on a waiting list?   Is a physician's referral absolutely needed,  because I have no family doctor,  there are no doctors in my area accepting new patients... and last time I went to the walk in clinic for a doctor's note I basically got told to not come back unless I was actually sick,  that they were not there to write notes and I needed to get a family doctor.  Argh!  There are not enough doctors to go around!   Have any of you managed to do this with no family doctor?   My BMI is 45 so I'm pretty sure I'd qualify!   I'm 34 so would love to get this done now while my kids are still young.

Wow!  You are doing so great!  50 lbs in 2 months must feel like its just melting off you, right?  It's tough about the low energy thing though...do you have more energy in the mornings?  Maybe you could try to just start with 5 minutes in the morning and increase it by a couple minutes each day? I'm sure some post ops will have some good advice.

We have the same surgeon, so I have so many questions I could ask you!

Were you in much pain returning home after surgery?  Does it hurt to bend or sit?  How is Dr. Atlas - do you see him much before or after the surgery?  How long are you in the hospital?
And what are you eating now...do you ever feel hungry?

Anyway - I'm really impressed with your weight loss so far - I'm sure you'll be hitting your goal in no time!

Hi Anne,

How remarkable your progress! You are doing really well but sorry to hear about your lack of energy.

I wish I had some advice to give you but the only thing I can think of is to increase your protein intake.
I don't know how much you are getting in but maybe someone who's been sleeved for a while can give you some advice.

Keep up the good work and hope that you feel more energised soon!

Take care and Happy Holidays!

Hi gang, it's been 2 months already since I had my sleeve done at Sacre Coeur by the dr.Atlas and up until now, from my highest weight, i've lost 65 lbs!!!!   50 lbs since surgery!!!!  I'm so happy right now but nothing fits me anymore....  So I have to go buy new clothes!!!!  I went from a tight 26 jeans and 4x shirts to 18 jeans and 1x shirts.  But on the down side, on still sooooo tired, I have NO energy, I still need my nap in the pm.  Is this normal?  I still don't eat much and I drink as much as i possibly can and I even drink protein shakes once a day but don't even have the energy to exercise yet.....  Any suggestions?

Thank you

Anne
P.S.  I've added pics to my profile, some may be graphic.... others will come soon.

Topic: RE: Optifast

So have been on this Optifast for a while now and it seems to be getting better. Apart from some "uncomfortable" first few days...let's just say thank goodness I had a bathroom close by...

I still haven't managed 4 a day (a couple of days I even did just 2) but I am trying. I do look forward to having my veggies!

I went out and got the Listerine strips (thanks Monica) and the gum I also needed to buy (thanks Cindy) since I'm not a big gum eater...so it does help! What I've also been doing is adding the syrops. It really makes a difference especially with the vanilla since I'm not crazy about the vanilla.

So that's it for now...oh yea almost forgot...I'm down 11 pounds so far so I'm very thrilled with that (I know that it's mostly water but makes me happy)

Take care all and have a great evening,
Hugs,
Ada

 Hi Ada,

For the nasty aftertaste, what really helped me were Listerine strips - it's like super concentrated mouthwash and it really helped clear the taste from my mouth. Interestingly, I also found that it worked as a mild appetite suppressant, so score! The other thing I did like crazy back then was scraping my tongue. It helped to remove the "fuzz" that seems to accumulate on the tongue from the shakes.

If you can, you should really try to drink all 4 shakes most of the days. The reason being that the nutrition content is calculated so you get your nutrition needs met when taking 4 shakes daily. While not meeting that target during four weeks will most likely not affect you adversly long term, why take a chance. On the other hand, if you really can't get that 4th one down, oh well, no sense in forcing yourself.

Good luck!

Hi Ada,

I couldn't get 4 in either. The only thing Martine told me was to try, cause it's the energy your loosing out on. But I hardly ever got 3 never mind 4.

For the taste, I can't remember but can you chew gum? Maybe some sugerless ones?

Hang in there!

Topic: Optifast

Hi everybody,

So have been on Optifast for a few days and my thoughts so far...not much fun!

So I prefer the chocolate which surprises me since I'm not much of a chocolate person and so far the best way is with ice. I haven't gotten any syrops to add yet so once I do I'm hoping the vanilla will be better. My only real negative thing about it is the awful taste it leaves in my mouth. Any suggestions other than brushing my teeth right after?

I also can't get 4 of them in a day...I can hardly do 3 so will that cause any problems?
That's it for now and hope that you're all having a great weekend!

Hugs,
Ada
