I have been a RN since 2003. Went directly into L&D. I absoulutely love it! I work evening shift. I love the people I work with, the shift sucks for my kids and husband, but it's what works for our family at this time.
I had open RNY by Dr. Aguirre in Ensenada MX. I had absolutley wonderful care and would go back in a heart beat. I am down 97lbs with my 1 yr anniversary around the corner.

I am a fairly new Registered Nurse. I graduated June 2004. I am currently working on an Oncology floor and love it. I do plan, however, to do hospice and homecare. Right now I am still working on the confidence !! Nursing can be very intimidating!!!

Topic: RE: Considering Mexican Band .....is self inflation an option?
Hey Libby, I had the same questions as I will be living a considerable distance from any lapband physicians. I am going to get a co-worker that accesses portacaths all the time to get comfortable with finding my port so that she can deflate it in an emergency. Not to concerned about fills as I don't mind driving 3 hours for that once in awhile. I may get her to tweak it if she and I are comfortable with that later.
Good Luck.

Topic: RE: Here's the 60,000 question...
Hey Kathy, I have been doing this since 93 with 2 years PCT before and nursing school was by far the worse. Nursing changes daily and you will always be learning. I still feel somedays like a new grad. What brings it home is when a trauma comes in and I jump in with both feet and don't question what I am doing that I know how much I have learned, or when a new mom asks questions over her sick baby at 3am and I can answer intelligently. Don't ever be scared to ask the nurses you are working with questions. Learn from your co-workers everyshift. Work as a team and you will be surprised how fast you will become the senior/leader of the team.
Good luck - Beverly
Topic: RE: Roll Call
Hello everyone, I graduated in 93. Worked as a patient care tech for 2 years before graduation. Small hospital - got lots of exposure to everything because they knew I was in school. Emergency c-sections etcl. I mainly do emergency care but float to ICU, CCU, telemetry, urology, pulmonary, neuro - you name it, I have just about done it, including utilization review, house supervisor and teacher.
I love it. Although found out about the nurse bladder when I had emergency c-section myself last year. Got the foley out and overflowed that hat everytime I got up. Thats what I get for working a busy ER.
9 years have been in North Carolina - now I am moving back to Canada.
Nice to meet you all. I am working on getting the lapband.

I know you RNs will understand, but I am concerned about finding a MD willing to work with me on inflating the band....all I see is how easy it is. If you are experienced at accessing an infusaport, shouldn't you be able to do this? Actually my boss and I are considering this, and could inflate each other.
TIA

Topic: RE: Hospice nursing
Thanks to all of you for the web links and the book recommendations.
I'm going to go out and get to reading this week!!
I have such a strong interest in doing hospice work, I really feel it's going to finally be my 'nitch' in nursing that I just haven't found.
Thanks, Tracey

Hi, everybody!
I've been a nurse for 21 years. The last 4 years I've worked for hospice. It's rewarding and interesting. I am welcomed into homes of many different cultures. Sometimes I'm treated like a family member. I just love it!! Barb
