Hi All, I am new, asking questions and trying to find out information. I have been reading profiles so many of my questions have been answered. I still do have one though does your hair really fall out after surgery? Right afater or after some time? Does it grow back? Does it take long? I don't want to lose my hair!! Thanks, Tara

I think it happens somewhere around six months post op, but only if you don't get your protien in like you're suppose to. My doc says 60-70 grams of protein per day.

Tara, I started to loose my hair around 10 weeks out. I lost my hair for about three months. No one was able to notice except myself and my family. I was told to take extra vitimans. My surgeon is not always sure why some people loose their hair and other people do not. Best of luck!

Hi Tara, I had no hair loss at all but was sure to get in the minimum of 60 grams of protein daily and minimum of 64 oz water. I also read that taking 1000 mcg of Biotin prevented hair loss so added it to my long list of supplements. I really think it's all about the protein but I did a lot of research on supplements and still take a great many because even now I can't eat enough food daily to meet minimum daily requirements. I am two years out and no hair loss at all. All the best on your journey. Cathy Open RNY 7/26/2004 302/170/160

Tara; Everyone is different and not everyone loses their hair. The worst of the hair loss is usually from 3-6 months post-op, although mine started falling out at 7 weeks post-op and stopped around 4 months post. (I've always been an early adapter! ) I have super thick hair. The time that it was falling out was the only time in my adult life that I remember not having to have my hairdresser use the thinning shears. At 8 months post-op, almost everything I lost has grown back. I do have a friend who had DS in 1999. She always had very thin hair to the point she'd wear a wig for special occasions (for instance, my wedding). After her surgery, I've never seen her without a wig. She won't let anyone except her husband see how bad her hair loss is and at 7 years post-op, it still hasn't come back. Blessings, Jennifer 253 / 159 / 137

In most cases that I know of, the hair loss isn't enough to be a huge deal. I never have gotten back the thickness I used to have, but there's still plenty up there. LOL I also had a hysterectomy though, and I think that has something to do with it. I take B-complex sublingual liquid every day. If I slack off, I notice more hairs shedding in the shower.

I am only 4 weeks out but my hair is better now than it was pre-op!! haha. I started taking my vitamins/biotin a month pre-op. Since surgery I have continuted to take the vitamins/biotin and get the protein in EVERY single day. My friend had surgery and didnt have any problems with her hair and another friend had a horrible time with her hair! Ive seen some people say theyve experienced hair loss not until 3 months, 6 months, 9 months out so its hard to say!

I am 6 months out and have lost some hair every time I bru**** out some falls out. My hair is really thick so you can not tell. Your vitamins are an important key to your hair not falling out. I am a slacker when it comes to taking my vitamins. so just remeber take your vit, protein, and whatever else your doc tells you to do.
