What can I take?

Ok, this might not be popular, but I am really into natural health. In a dark bathroom try and run as hot as you can stand ho****er over your wrists. That will help the blood flow. Pressure points between your thumb and pointy (forefinger)...there is that flabby skin. Pinch it for about a minute. If you can have someone else do that while you rub behind your ears...softly. That helps. Try lavender aromatherapy...this also works for sinus headaches and infections. Put a few drops under your nose, cheeks and forehead. You will feel your nose starting to drip. Try peppermint if it's not a sinus headache. Put underneath nose. Make into a tea. Talk to a health store or natural pathic doc about 5-HTP. That might help you. Make some lemon tea and drink. That can help. I need to get my book out. But I have more that I do. I am a migraine sufferer. I've taken just about every OTC and Rx wise. I've even had spinal taps. These work better than drugs. I've been studying natural health for about 5 years.

Check with your doctor. Some folks have been able to take NSAIDs, others can't. My surgeon said I could take my beta blocker (migraine prevention) post-op; his nurse said that if I did, I needed to continue prevacid because it is notoriously hard on the stomach.

I had surgery 14 weeks ago. I have had ONE migraine since then and it was last Wednesday. I did have to take my Maxalt for it, but then I found that tylenol for the next three days helped with the residual pain which is common for me after a migraine.

For me Tylenol didn't touch stuff pre-op, but is doing just fine post-op. Check with your surgeon and good luck!

fwiw, I take NSAIDS when I have bad back or arthritis flare ups. This is with my surgeon's approval. If I get to the point where I am forced to choose between vicodin or aleve? I'm going with aleve. Not for every day, but I'm not going to mess around with narcotics for a week while my back is in a snit if I can get relief with aleve or naproxen, etc.  NSAIDS do not cause immediate damage--there is this idea that if an RNY post-op takes an ibuprofen, a hole will be instantly burned into the gut. That's simply not going to happen. You have to weigh all the goods and the bads and decide.  Tylenol is useless for me--I'd have to take enough for liver damage to feel much relief when I am having back trouble.

Are you drinking enough liquids?

I had a headache for 2 days in a row (which is unusual since I take prophylactic migraine meds which work wonders). Tylenol took it away but it came back. However, what I noticed is on both days I fell way behind in my liquids. By 6 p.m., I had had a total of 2 glass of liquids on both days. Since I went back to  drinking liquids throughout the day, the headache has not come back.

A headache is also a sign of dehydration.

I have also found that LIQUID Tylenol gives me more relief than the pills do.
