can i take pepto bismol?!?!

hi everyone, i have not posted on here for a few months but i am in desperate need of some advice. i have a little stomach bug and i need to take something to keep from going so often! can we take pepto bismol or kaeopectate???????? i am 4 1/2 months out. any help would be much appreciated! jen

Jen,   My doctor cleared me to take Pepto.... And it really helped me. Hope you feel better soon!

One thing to remember is that Pepto Bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) happens also to be a NSAID (non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug) due the significant amount of salicylate found in the mixture. I doubt that occasional use would cause any problems, but you might want to check with your surgeon or PCP doctor. Kaopectate (if it's the same kaopectate that was sold for years--kaolin, a clay, and pectin, a fruit fiber) should not be a problem. /Steve

As an FYI - pepto bismol can turn your poo dark greyish blackish brown - its normal :-) it can also turn your tongue colors!
