Vagus Nerve/Runny Nose Question

Hi, I'm one of those who seems to have had some vagus nerve disruption in that immediately after surgery my nose started to run (just from one nostril).  It's not a huge volume, although it is quite constant and increases when I get near the full mark when I eat. My Q is, for any of you who have had this or other vagus-nerve side effects, did it eventually go away or is it still ongoing for you? Thanks and could you please hand me a tissue.  Jasmine

Still on going for me.  That's my signal for being full...if I go any further, I get the burps...after that, I vomit.  So I "stick" to the runny nose signal. Dawn

Me too.  I am 6 months out and still start to sneeze whenever I eat too much or the wrong thing - My family stresses everytime I sneeze - is it my allergies, or do they need to clear the path to the bathroom.

I have the runny nose, too!  Even if I don't "feel" full when it starts running, I quit eating immediately.

Buy stock in your favorite paper plant.  Mine ran constantly for a year, tapered off a bit and is now just a steady drip.  I runs more when I should stop eating, and when I'm done in the "reading room,' but it still requires a pocketful of tissues.    I find Puffs to be softer but they shred the worst in the washer.

It starts too early for me to be useful-- today it started on the second bite of a quesadilla-- not even close to my pouch limit. My vague nerve doesn't like cheese, apparently!

OMG! I totally forgot about this - I read about it pre-op, tucked it away, and promptly forgot about it... I do get a runny nose and I've never even paid attention to the fact that it is related to the vagus nerve - Duh! Thank you for reminding me - it might keep me from pushing my limits - I will have to pay better attention to my body signals! Bekah

I am so glad that you posted this. I have always gotten very nauseas right before I had to sneeze this has happened since I was a child. My dad always told me I was nuts that it was impossible and he is a nurse imagine that. Well now since the surgery when I get full I get very nauseas to the point that I feel like I am going to throw up but then I sneeze and it goes away and I am fine. I know for a fact that I had vagus nerve damage because I wound up back in the hospital for an extra week because my reminant stomach was paralyzed from the nerve being cut and I had a drain placed in there and was on meds for it for almost 2 months afterwards. So Jasmine thank you very much for putting this out there and letting me know that it wasnt all in my head all these years.

My nose quit running after about 3 weeks.  It was the weirdest experience for me, because I have always struggled with not enough drainage and I would get headaches and stuff from being dry.  Now I'm not dripping like I did those first three weeks, but I definitely have more "moisture."  I'm wondering if I need my nasal spray anymore.  But, it is the dead of winter, the air is super dry, so maybe my nose is just absorbing the excess moisture and maybe it will start to drip again when it warms up and humidity returns.  Hmm, something to take note of.
