If it's over a month away then why not? I've never had a perm so I guess I'm not really sure why you coulldn't or shouldn't do it ... I was lucky enough to be born with naturally curly hair.

Do it now, if you wait you will regret not having it done. You never know what effect the anesthesia will have on getting a perm after. Good Luck

Yep, do it now.  You will have enough trouble with your hair post-op (losing it!) without adding a perm into the mix. Lora

Speaking from a hairstylists' point of view, go ahead and have it done now.  The effects of the anesthesia on your hair sometimes makes it difficult for a perm to "take".  Besides, having a perm, will mean you won't have to do as much to your hair while you're recovering. Good luck on your surgery

If you're a perm kinda person, I'd say go for it!   But honestly, you may find you want a shorter cut or something in about 3 months (when the hair loss starts), so you may want to consider if you really want to go there.   INHO, if perms don't take well on hair post-anesthesia, I'd hold off.  You don't want to be stuck in a situation where you want to go shorter and have permed ends and straight roots.  Besides, just looking at trends right now, permless seems to be more of the trend.

When I was 2 weeks post op, I had 12 inches cut off my hair and had it permed.  No problems at all.

Hi there, Two weeks before my WLS I got a perm.  I did it so I didn't have to use the curling iron or fuss with it too much.  I also decided I was goig to let my layers grow out and change my style.  I knew around 3 months out I would start losing some hair so with all that extra thick hair I was hoping I wouldn't miss it as much.  Well I just started losing hair last week.  It's pretty darn depressing, BUT no one can tell but me because I have a huge head of hair.  I'm so glad I got the perm because it is so much less work to fuss with my hair.  Three weeks post-op I dyed my hair and got highlights.  My hair took fine with that as well.  Good luck with what you decide Chris
