Has anyone heard of an MD not doing a swallow test after RNY?
Very surprised! Mine was done one day post-op and it was fascinating to watch. While tilted to my right I could actually see the film and saw my two lines of staples. Beyond that, it is not a question of the surgeons trusting themselves, I see it as the right and proper medical thing to do in every effort to provide the patient with quality and comprehensive care. As an RN I would have insisted that it be done if the doc had not.
No swallow test here either. My doctor is the Centers director and my center is a Center of Excellence. No problems here...3 months oput and ounting..( i don't dump either, nada nothin' zip, zilch)

I MY RNY!
Nope, no swallow test here, either. She checks for leaks in the OR before she closes. The nurses DID limit my ice chip comsumption the day of surgery (I was an 8am surgery) and were closely monitoring urine output when I was allowed to sip water, though.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
