question about staples..

Am I correct in that you only have staples with an open RNY? Mine is laparoscopic and I was sure I wouldn't have staples...also, I had a lap hysterectomy last Dec 2007 and do staples...and will they go through my belly button again?

I had Lap RNY and had staples.  I had my 2-week follow up appointment on day 8 and had them removed.  Then they put steri stripes over the incisions and I had to leave them on until they fell off (about 4 days).

I had stitches where my drain tube was placed (drain was removed before I left hospital).  The stitches were WAY worse than the staples.

And yes, they'll go through your belly button and you'll even get a staple in there too.  (Just pretend it's a belly ring.)

I had lap RNY and had staples in ea*****ision, one being in my belly button. No drain tube for me.

My DR says it depends on your size. When I had lost 100 pounds and had my gallbladder removed, 4 months after WLS, they used steri strips.

I had lap RNY and had NO staples or stitches.  The doc put steri-strips over everything...even the one in my belly button.

I had Lap RNY last Monday and I have no staples, only dermabond (like a ruberized glue) in the incisions and steri-strips over the draintube incision because he rmoeved the drain prior to hospital discharge. The dermabond will fall off in a week or two.

Lap RNY with only steri strips here, too.
Just as well...... I am allergic to the staples and found them hell when I had gallbladder removed years ago.

For me....just steri strips over all lap incisions.  No drain.  I was pretty big at 332 pounds on surgery day.

No drain only an OnQ pump for pain relief removed before discharge.  Had Demabond over all incisions.  Didn't go through the belly button, but did release the scar tissue from prior lap surgery there.

I had lap rny & had staples on the incisions & stitches for the drain....fiance had lap rny & had stitches for everything. Different surgeons but they practice in the same group so go figure. ITs so funny to compare all the differences we seem to have.

I had Lap RNY. I had stitches inside, staples on outside to close the incisions. I was healing so well, my staples were removed at my 1-wk post-op visit. My scars are barely visible.
My surgeon did not go through my belly button. And I did not have a drain tube.
Good Luck!
