Did Mike Huckabee Have WLS?

I was talking in a chat room on another forum last night and politics came up, as seems to be the topic of the day of late.  Someone mentioned former candidate AR. Gov. Mike Huckabee, to which someone else asked, "wasn't (Mike) Huckabee that governor that had gastric bypass surgery and lost a lot of weight and then ran for prez?" (nore sure if that remark was meant as a credit to or a slam against WLS or what, but many of the roomies knew I had WLS)

I have never run across anything before about Huckabee and WLS, and www.gastricbypassguru.com does not have him listed as a celeb with WLS.

Has anyone else heard this or know if it is true or not?

Hi,
As far as I know, Huckabee has never admitted to WLS.  He just said that he was on a supervised diet from University of Arkansas Med School.  My personal opinion is that he did, I don't know why he is shy/sly about it.

He wrote a book about his journey with losing weight. Based on the length of time and the diet and exercise (mostly running) that he did to lose the weight, it doesn't appear to be as a result of weight-loss surgery. I choose to believe him, until he gives me a reason not to. He seems to be a man of integrity.
I remember, too, that he admitted to having gained some weight on the campaign trail (too many donuts and fast food stops), so he was cutting back and making sure to get in his time for running. The food part, involved with his temporary weight gain, would also support no WLS.

I saw this on docshop.com:

Currently, there is speculation that former Arkansas governor and current hopeful for the Republican presidential nomination Mike Huckabee has undergone some form of bariatric surgery. Huckabee's 100-plus-pound weight loss in less than two years has led many to believe that he must have turned to weight loss surgery. The presidential hopeful denies that he has had surgery and attributes his weight loss to healthy eating habits and exercise.

If I lived on the moon, I would only weigh 24.4 pounds.

He did not.  I read a feature article about his weight loss journey in a health trade magazine.  He did it without surgery - ate healthier and got off his butt to exercise.  He's now an advocate for healthy living.  I found a reason to respect him after reading that article, even though I don't agree with his politics.  Anyone who can accomplish something like that - with or without surgery - is worthy of kudos.  And he's kept it off for more than a year as well.  An unusual thing for someone who did it without surgery.  He had a health scare, that sort of thing usually does wonders for motivation to keep it off.

If he lost 100 lbs in 2 years, I would assume that he didn't have WLS. Men tend to lose faster than women, and a lot of women lose 100 in a year or less. Everyone is different, of course, but that's just my hunch.

Ok well this article is more or less questioning the WLS thing and explaining his weight loss strategy:

I believe if he had WLS he would say so.  He seems to be a pretty honest and decent guy.

No he did not and he has also implented a better eating program in all of the Arkansas schools.  Our kidos are only allowed two classroom parites and year.  All vending machines have been removed from the schools.  He is trying hard to help our kids to be healthy.  It is a big thing here in Arkansas with his support.
