Can eating beef jerky be considered exercise?

I never really cared for beef jerky pre-op so I never tried it post-op until a couple of days ago.  Wow!  What was I thinking??  It's some good stuff!  I tried the original and that's okay but not all that much taste.  Then I tried peppered.  Liked that really well until the bottom of the bag and that's apparently where all the peppered stuff hangs out!  Holy cow I about burned my mouth off!!  I picked up some teriyaki last night to try today.  Sounds good so I'm hoping it is.  But really, as much chewing as it takes can't that be considered a work out??

I am a beef jerky fan.  I love the stuff.

I bet you'd like tukey pepperoni also.  I just got some the other day at the grocery store.  It's not chewy like the jerky but it's low cal, low fat and has a good amount of protein in it.

I love jerky because you can just take it on the go and it's a lean protein.  The only thing I have to watch is the sodium.  Sometimes that kick me into water retention but I'm a sponge anyway when it comes to that.

Keep chewin'

OOOOO!  I'll have to try turkey pepperoni!  I started keeping the jerky in the car so when I'm out and about I can have that instead of grabbing something at a convenient store or in the checkout aisle.  Granted, most of the time they have it there too, but it's in competition with all that other stuff I shouldn't eat.

Thanks for the idea!

LMAO. Now THAT is some funny stuff right there!

That's one of the reasons I don't like jerky cause it's sooooo chewy. You cracked me up though! Thanks for the giggle!

I agree that it should be considered exercise!! I absolutely LOVE beef jerky, and the sodium doesn't bother me at all. I am really going to miss it for a while after my surgery next Monday.

Hi Chris:

You reminded me. In April, I tried beef jerky.

Let me tell you where I tried beef jerky for the first time...on the small plane from Melville Hall Dominica to Antigua. We had been on the island of Dominica for a week. My friend Leslie had saved some for us. Most of our group were teenagers. They loved it.

We knew that we would not be getting food for quite awhile. We had to miss breakfast as the plane took off so early in the morning. I was at the airport at 5:13 am.

I bought some last month and ate the bag over these last two weeks. I put a snack baggie in my lunch box. It comes in handy to have something for those times when you need a protein infusion.

I had bought a South Beach protein bar that I saved for just such an occassion. I was hungry at 11 but still had many Express Mail packages to deliver by noon time.

I also keep almonds in a snack baggie for those times when I need extra protein.

I saw my surgeon for my 9 month check up. I am doing excellent healthwise.

I eat beef jerky once a week, I  love the peppered and the teriyaki, but I always seem to retain fluid after I eat it from all the sodium. I like it as a snack and it has alot of protein.  I agree it is a workout for your face but it would be nice if we could count it for the whole body workout. LOL

When I took the first bite I was a little worried about that.  But it's all in the chewing.  Just like anything else you have to chew like crazy...
