Does everyone have a catheter during surgery?
I had one and I hated it! Had to carry my bag of pee around with me whenever I left my bed (to walk, to have the leak test, etc). When I rolled or moved, I could feel the tube pulling. YUCK!
I begged them to take it out the next day and they did. They told me it would feel like a UTI when I tried to pee for awhile and it did. It felt yucky down there for at least a week post-op.
I should have asked if they would allow me to NOT have one since so many others on here don't. Obviously, it IS possible to get up and use the bathroom after surgery.

They put one in me while I was under. First time I ever had a cath so I was worried. The next morning right before when they said they would take it out I hit the pain pump button really quick. Nurse said to exhale and it was out. Sure it was out before the meds in the pain pump even worked. Piece of cake. No UTI afterwards but I was on IV antibotics anyway so I wasnt worried.
I had one while in surgery ONLY. They put it in after I was knocked out and took it out before I woke up... The doctor and nurses wanted me up and walking around as much as possible, so having to go to the bathroom would at least be one way to make you get up. (Although I didn't pee until midnight, and I had surgery early that morning. It was almost a cause for alarm.)
