Please share your worst experience with the RNY gastric bypass with me, I am still in the decision making phase.  It is OK to be graphic.  Thanks so much!

I havent had any real bad experiences.  At 2 months out I ended up in the hospital for dehydration.  I thought, how could this be?  I drink over 64 oz of water/day.  Thing was I wasnt eating enough sodium for the water to stay with me.  Little things like that you just dont think about.

Its been one of the best decisions I've made in my life.  Even those with severe complications usually say the same thing.  I was obsessed with food before, but post-RNY I'm even more obsessed but in a different way.  Its a hard road...make sure you're mentally ready for it because its not easy at all.

The surgeon did a leak test before they woke me up after surgery.  Some of the liquid they used for the test got left in my pouch.  The second I came to in the OR I started throwing up the blue-green test dye.  At that moment in time I regretted my RNY - until they gave me enough drugs to stop the vomiting.  Since then I have not had any problems.  Then again - I follow my surgeon's rules and eating plan to the letter.

Do your research on all your options and make the best surgery choice for YOU!!!!

Complications, sorry to say.  Still glad I did it though.  Trips to ER (stricture), hospitalization, internal bleeding, blood transfusions, central feeding line, pain, vomiting, terror.  8 months later still not feeling well, slow and often stagnant weight loss.   But, diabetes improved and still have great hope for future health.

I am only a week out. Had gastric bypass last friday. So far the worst part was not being able to stop burping right after surgery. I burped in the recovery room until they male nurse said he had never seen a female who could burp so much. That made me feel good. Not.  I was in a lot of pain for about 36 hours but then things got better fast. No pain meds since Sunday Just tired.

Pain, pain and more pain...
Had a surgery to remove GB and fix hernia and untwist the bowels..
Nausea for 3 months  - probably due to GB problem (prior to the GB surgery).

Pain, pain and more pain...
Not sure why I was in pain.  pain on and off - not sure what caused it - maybe ulcer or maybe still twisted bowels.

But - the pain comes and goes.  But I am 100 lbs lighter. So over all - still do not regret the surgery.  Only if I knew why was I in so much pain for 2 weeks..

This week I feel great.  Last 2 days even eat like before the pain started - so maybe it is gone for good?  Who knows.  I will enjoy every day with no pain.

pain- how bad it was - well - only 10-15 after I ate, and it lasted 30 min to 10 hrs, and it responded to pain medication (most of the time).

But once it was gone - I felt fine, tired, but fine, and hungry.

The good points   - I can fit in size 6-8, s-M, I like feeling and seeing my bones.

I was called "skinny *****" by someone who was not big herself... So, overall - not too bad...

1.  My body is melting
2.  My boobs look like a sock with a lemon in them
3.  Because of the ingestion of many vegetables, I fart a lot
4.  I have to buy new clothes every month
5.  I have developed a cross addiction to the treadmill

and none of those is worse than the 180 lbs. of excess weight I was carrying around, of which about 150 is now gone.

Seriously though.  I've gotten sick from stuff getting stuck, I've dumped.  I found my recovery from surgery to be particularly unpleasant but nothing extraordinary for me.

RNY on 08/27/08 with

The constipation.  I never knew I would be so damn constipated!!!  I thought it would be the opposite.

However, with each pound I lose, I see another door of opportunity opening for me, another month ADDED to my life.   Makes the constipation thing easier.
