I can't tell you how your body will react, but I can tell you that I was  more sensitive to foods right after surgery.  7 months out this month... and I can tolerate most foods (even sugar).  The only thing I have to be careful with is sugar or fat in the morning.  Evening, I can eat almost everything... just an empty stomach seems to be very touchy.

It honestly always depends on the food.  Sugar alcohols make me dump, regular sugar...not so much.  High carbs make me dump, high fat...not so much.

I agree, if you are eating something on an empty stomach in the morning, it might not agree with you.

I don't know.  I think if you dump, you dump and if you don't, you don't.  I dump, still, 2 years postop.  Sometimes, it was hidden sugar ... sometimes it's immediate, sometimes delayed up to 3 hrs ... sometimes I can't figure what exactly caused it, it just happens.  Happens sporadically, like maybe once/month or less most of the time, then all of a sudden 3 times in a week.  ?!?!?

I'm glad the thing is still with me, because it keeps me focused on what I should stay away from.  Unfortunately, sometimes things that I *think* are okay get me anyway, though.

I'll tell you what -- one thing that gives me horrific gas is SUGAR ALCOHOL!  Not a little toot, mind you ... I'm talking major!  lol  (Sorry!)

Dump...ahhh why do they have to make it sound so nasty....

I havent had what anyone describes at this point as dumping but that could always change...there are foods I have not incorporated back into my diet so I still hold out that one day I might have it...

I have learned one thing....no 2 days are the same after the surgery (at least at this point)

I am just curious.....at less than one month out....what are you eating that might cause you to dump????????

Really, at one month---I wasn't eating anything with sugar in it at all.

I didn't dump for 4 months---because I was staying on plan.  With protien first and following plan---there was no dumping.

Carbs and Fat will make people dump, its not just sugar.  I think some people confuse dumping and getting something stuck too (and throwing it up) -- huge difference to the original poster!

For me lactose intolerance is "dumping sick"--

From WebMD.  The symptoms of lactose intolerance

"The common symptoms of lactose intolerance are gastrointestinal, primarily, abdominal paindiarrhea , flatulence(passing gas), and, less commonly, abdominal bloating, abdominal distention, and nausea. "

But even skim milk has sugar.  It has 12 G of sugar.  So I'm not sure if I'm dumping on milk or milk sugar but it really doesn't matter.  Milk caused the immediate "dump" for me, but milk products, including my whey based proteins can make me nauseous.  I take acidophilous and use soy milk in my shakes and that works to avoid any nausea.

I'm also assuming I dump on sugar-----it makes those stray cupcakes that pass in front of me look unappealing.

Honey is concentrated sugars.  I don't ever expect to be able to have honey again.

Nutrition facts for honey:

• 80% natural sugar -- mostly fructose and glucose. Due to the high level of fructose, honey is sweeter than table sugar.
• 18% water. The less water content the honey has, the better the quality of honey.• 2% minerals, vitamins, pollen and protein.

Our pouch doesn't care what form of sugar we ingest.  Lactose (milk sugar), sucrose, fructose, glucose---all sugars, all have the potential to cause a "dump"
