Hi everyone,
Thanks to all of you *****sponded to my cry for help.   Thanks - your advice and perspecive allowed me to be calm and compose about telling hin about my WLS.  I appreciate your help.  You guys are fantastic.
I took your advice (some of you, most of you)  and relaxed about the whole issue.

FYI: I saw my friend last weekend (2 long dates) and when the time was right I casually mentioned to him about my surgery.  I was relaxed, and told him so "he would know", not making a big deal out of it.  His reaction was great, he did not asked many questions, and told me that I have to make sure and tell him what I can eat or drink. That is all.

I can not share anymore details without .  Let me just tell you - I am very happy today...

I think he is a "keeper".  We will see

So glad to hear it!!!  I think being heartfelt and honest is the best way to go.  You have everything to be proud of and you want the new Hunky Hunk to love ALL of you...and that includes the truth of your lifestyle and how far you've come.

Way to go, sista!  Now go smooch that new man.

My fella didn't meet me until about 4 months after my surgery so I'd already dropped 50+ lbs. He hasn't a clue what the "old/fat/lazy" Iris was like. He asked to see some before pictures and I have shared those. At first I think he thought I was kidding. He catches himself sometimes and then apologizes for it (like trying to bring me a coke / eating ice cream in front of me/ candy bars from the store). He needn't apologize because he's not doing it to be mean - he's just being considerate. He's stick thin - has no earthly idea what it means to be an ounce overweight. He finds it odd that his 4 year old eats bigger portions than I do. (Man can she put the groceries away).

He's a smart man too. Not once has he mentioned the saggy skin. He has commented on how "soft" my skin is. The right bra does wonders for the rocks in socks syndrome but there are times when that thing needs to come off and hang from the ceiling fan. Attitude makes all the difference in the world. If you don't let it bother you - it certainly won't  bother him.

Good Luck with him and just relax and enjoy it. Who knows where it might lead.

Hala,

So glad things went well. Sounds like so far so good.

It's funny, the day you posted the original question--well, I had a first date that very evening and your thread/question was on my mind.

My date asked me "how was your day" and I hesitated before I answered because, that very day I had been to the hospital for pre-op bloodwork for my gallbladder removal (which is this week).

So, I told him that my day was okay, but that I'd had blood drawn, which always makes me a little queasy. He asked why and I told him about my upcoming GB surgery.

Of course, his knowing about the GB procedure doesn't seem like a big deal to me...it's coming up in a few days and it seems like I will be seeing him again soon.

It was nice to be able to talk honestly about the future procedure without having to talk about the WLS in my recent past. For me, that one is going to have to wait till I know him much better. (That isn't to take away from your decision, Hala, as it is clear that you feel very comfortable with your decision and that it worked out to your satisfaction.)

Best,

Cindy

Cindy,
Having the GB procedure is a very good cover up (and real issue) with your eating pattern.  At the beginning. FYI - before my GB surgery, and right after that I could not eat.   So after all was over - I had to relearn to eat again.  I was back to drinking liquids, then eating 1-2 oz, then introducing new foods all over again.  So my story - had some basis.  So once you have GB - for strangers and other people - you can initially blamed it in GB.
I would say:

" after the surgery- I have a problem with some foods- and that is why I chose not to have them and have small quantities of food very often."
Q: "what surgery did d you have?"
A: "Just recently I had my GB removed"  (that also can explain the scars - most people do not know how many or where the scars need to be LOL)

Every one understand GB surgery - and it is so common...

As you noticed - in my answers - I did not lie - just did not volunteer the whole truth... So later on, there is a room to tell more - if you chose to, or want to... depends on a person or the relationship you have with them...

Hey, this is really good, thank you! Of course, I'm hoping that I will be able to eat my "normal" way after GB surgery as I am eating now. But either way, I think that this will be a good "cover".

Scar wise,  that's a good thought too. Though really the only time people ever see my scars is if it is someone who knows I had WLS and can't conceive that it was done laparoscopically (sp)... But I'm fully dressed when I show them!
