Someone hook me up... I finally found the stuff (my sister had to inform me that "duh" it's with the grains and not the frozen foods)

now I need recipes :-)

Either page 2 or 3...I posted a thread with a spicy black bean burger.  It has TVP in it and is perfect for your stage in the game.

I'll post more later.  Gotta go eat roasted peas ;-)

Nik?  I've heard mention of the roasted peas often lately.  Where do you get them?  Are they anything like the baked pea pods that I found at Trader Joe's?

I got mine from the Amish.  Wasabi roasted peas.  They probably are the same.  I love spicy stuff so the Wasabi ones are right up my alley.  150 cals for a half cup, 6g protein.  I usually eat a quarter cup and it gives me all the crunch I need to keep my mouth at bay for a while.  YUM!

I know people like it - it is cheep, but... soy is not a miracle food as it was believed earlier...I do eat it- but I try to limit the qty and try not to consume soy every day...
I almost destroyed my thyroid, research and study the soy and thyroid connection and male hormones...

Ok, now that I have a minute...

My favorite ways to cook TVP:

1.  Instead of ground meat in chili (and I like to play around with chili.  Try making it with TVP instead of meat and add a tsp of cinnamon and a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa to your chili--SO GOOD!)

2.  In my oatmeal - equal parts quick oats and TVP (you'd prolly do well with an ounce of each to start off with).  Mix with some Splenda and cinnamon...add ho****er, just enough to cover it and then cover bowl with a plate and wait about 5 minutes.  Uncover...drop a big ol' dollop of peanut butter (or better yet Power PB)...tastes just like a peanut butter cookie!

3.  My latest...reconstitute it (1:1 TVP/water) but put some onion powder, garlic powder, a dash of salt and pepper, a tiny pinch of sage, and a shake fo red pepper flakes in the water before mixing with the TVP.  Let that set up.  In the meantime dice some onions, peppers and mushrooms.  Get a pan not with nonstick...dump in egg whites, TVP and veggies and scramble.  YUM!

4.  Spicy black bean burgers

5.  TVP Mexican breakfast pizza (see my profile for a pic)

6.  I use TVP in place of noodles in my tuna casserole.  I'd have to dig up that recipe if you want it.

7.  As a base or my sweet 'n spicy pork instead of rice (use the same spices I mentioned for the scramble except nix the sage)

8.  Red beans and "rice" (1/4 c. fat free refried beans with added onions and peppers), 1/8 c. (for you...for me it'd be more like 1/4 - 1/2 c.) TVP reconstituted with water flavored with onion powder, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.  Diced turkey smoked sausage that's been tossed around a hot skillet for a few minutes, and a tablespoon or two of diced tomatoes (not traditional for red beans/rice but still yummy).

9.  Sticky "rice" - 1/8 c. (like I said...for you Tony...) TVP reconstituted with water "seasoned" with Splenda, cinnamon and a bit of ground ginger.  Let it completely set up and drain off any excess liquid.  Add a couple of tablespoons lite coconut milk (or you could attempt to be "good" and do Torani SF coconut syrup).  Refrigerate for an hour.  Once you can eat fruit you can add a few slivers of mango.  I like to do NSA peaches.

10.  TVP "rice" pudding - reconstituted TVP, greek yogurt, Splenda, cinnamon, raisins...Mix together...put in fridge

Hey this is a good list.  Might do a separate post so that other people can see this.
