If you really want to order from on-line sources, you need to have them send you measurements...side to side at the arm pits is a good one for shirts. waist is a good one for pants; rise, crotch...

Just remember that the sizing is really different than it used to be. Even in men's sizes, I found out. dh thought he wore a 30 waist but I measured his waist and it was 33. He still wears a 30 waist...how is that possible? Measure the waist before you buy and you'll see the number on the tag is NOT the number on the measuring tape anymore...

I also have to keep that in mind when I shop at the thrift store. Some of those clothes are older and have the standard (not "modernized") sizing and in those...I wear a 10. LOL
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Up until a few weeks ago I was still wearing my 2x and 3x uniform shirts to work.  I finally orederd some new ones in a "L" and could almost go to  "M".  It is amazing how many customers have commented now that my clothes actually fit like they should!!!!!!!!

Amen, I agree totally!! It is so hard to shop...which is why I usually take a friend with me...I'm blessed with some very "truthful" friends!! They will say um..Lisa way too big!!!!! or "ack not a good look for you'"...LOL!!  It's hard I always automatically look for the biggest size!!!! I think the mental stuff will come.....eventually!!! LOL!!!

It's funny about the batwing comment....I do the same thing and feel like I have to mention it first....Like everyone sees it....when in reality.....It's just me!!!!! And most of the time I accompany the statement with the flapping(chicken dance) arm movements....and they always say "so what like your really going to be going around doing the chicken dance all day"!!!! LOL!!!!

I just love this board!!  People who understand.  My size 6 sister and size 4 Best friend just do now get how overwhelmed I am shopping for clothes.  Before I would just go to the rack, find the biggest size and see if i liked it.  Now I am sooo confused. I also have no concept of size, I don't think I will order from catalogs anymore.  I love taking something so not the BIG ME and trying it on.  It is so great to see that one it fits and two it doesn't look so bad.  L:OL

With all my extra abdominal skin (that darn panni) I have trouble getting the right fit in pants. I am almost 5 years out and I am currently the smallest I been since ...oh...elementary school. But back to the skin - it causes me to where anything from a size 12 to a 16 depending on the cut. So I try to ignore the number and focus on the fit.

I am freaked by how much my feet have changed and are still changing. I am down from a 9-9.5 to a 7.5. Now these are starting to feel a bit big...go figure.
