3 1/2 weeks post Emergency Surgery

Hey guys - just an update. How am I doing? Well - to be honest - I'm not bouncing back from this surgery as quickly as I thought I would. Probably because I was so ill for over 2 weeks before I had the surgery. Eating is a chore at times - I can't count on whatever I choose to eat going down well or sitting well with me. And things that appeal to me are much more limited than before. BUT - I have come a long way. My incision is healed well. Unfortunately the g-tube insertion site is a bit mucky and growing stuff - started on antibiotics for this today, Hope that doesn't mess with my tummy. I'm heading to Moncton on Sunday for my Monday appt with my surgeon. Check-up and getting the blasted g-tube out. Yippee! I have not started excersising yet. Only just feeling strong enough this week to start walking again. But I have dropped so much weight (20lbs) that I can't afford to lose more. But I know I need to get my strength and endurance up before I go back to work. Those 12hr shifts in ER are wild. My plan is to start walking when I get back from oncton in Tues - and hopefully go back to work a few weeks after that if all is well. That will be 6 weeks post-op. This recovery has been rougher than my RNY ever was. Anyone out there who has had a Peterson's Hernia have any thoughts on that? They would be more than welcome. On a positive note - it's fall, the son in back to University - 4th year for him. DH is back to work - out of town - but he gets home every 3-4 days for a visit. I got paid some sick benefits today - finally - and did I mention I love fall? Such a pretty time of year. And someone asked me the other day - do I regret having my RNY now that I have endured illness and a complication requiring surgery? Not a chance baby! Every day I wake up and get out of bed painfree - all the things I can do with ease - well worth it. Cheers everyone and thanks for all your support and encouragement. Have a wonderful day!

I sure do hope you start to heal and get your energy back soon.  I've never heard of that type of hernia before.

I had one repaired in October 2008. My recovery for this was much worse than the original RNY. The way everything was malrotated and positioned ended up with the lap tools lacerating a vein, and I lost a lot of blood. I ended up needing a few units of blood after surgery. I also had to deal with lap incisions and a long open incision as well. I ended up able to return to work after 4 weeks, but I have a desk job, so that made it easier. I was lucky and didn't need to be resected or have a G-tube.

Glad you are feeling better!

My RNY hurt like a ***** but the herniated bowel/obstruction blew that outta the water.

And the plastics made BOTH of those look easy. ;)
