Why am I not losing?

I had surgery 03/03/09 and for some reason I am losing extremely slow right now.  I have lost only 12 pounds in the last 2 months.  I have no idea whats happening?  I know for a fact Im not over eating, Im getting in my protein now and vitamins are on a regular basis.  Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?  Its depressing.  Im not out far enough to be at the end.  I have another 70 pounds or so to go.  Any ideas greatly appreciated.

No ideas, just wanted to say good luck. Other than the obvious: are you exercising?  Drinking enough water (many people say it helps with weight loss)?

Could it be you are not getting enough calories and have thrown your body into starvation mode?  In starvation mode, your body will fight you to shed any weight.  It will hang onto every little ounce it can.

It also could be that you have hit the normal stall wall.  Try change'n things up a bit....do 50 grams of protein one day and in the next couple of days do 70 grams of protein the next...keep your body guess'n and raise your calorie intake too...

Ok... so you're not "not losing" - so that's good.  6 pounds a month is pretty dang good, actually - and completely normal.  The rapid weight loss usually lasts for the first 6 months or so, then it evens out to a more steady pace of 5-10lbs a month. And you're at the 5 month mark, right?  So it sounds like your'e right on track with being normal.

This is not a race.  Take a deep breathe, enjoy the journey and take each pound as a victory toward a healthier life.  As I wrote in my blog yesterday, Be Grateful for Today.

I loose slower than your current slow period but calorie and carb cycling has improved things for me.  I Keep protein high and cycle calories and carbs.  Protein is always above 100g wit 120g as goal.  Calories range between 1000 and 1500 with a daily deficit of 1000 to 1500 after exercise.  Carbs are never over 100g total and  50g net, 20-25% of calories on most days.  I use good fats to make up calories as needed.  I got there through trial and error but mixing it up within these ranges makes a difference for me.

I second what Dawn suggested. You may need more calories than you are actually getting.

My surgery date was 03/30/09.  I recently experienced a stall that lasted almost five weeks.  Then I went on vacation and didn't obsessively track my calories like I usually do...and I lost ten pounds in eight days.  Now I think that I wasn't eating enough for my activity level (I live in a city and walk EVERYWHERE, plus I am training for a 5K), so I've increased my calorie goal to between 900-1000 calories a day.  So far, it's working really well for me, and I have SO much more energy when I am working out.

I don't know if your situation might be similar or not, but thought I'd share.  Good luck!

I do have a hard time getting in my liquids.  For breakfast every day I drink my protein shake, then for lunch I have cottage cheese with pineapple.  For dinner, I usually have a bit of whatever I fix for the family.  No more then maybe a cup or cup and a half of food.  Depends on how it goes down.  Very seldom snacking.  Maybe its the liquids, I am getting in about 20 oz of water a day on top of the protein drink.  One sip and Im full for a good 5 minutes and sometime so full it hurts.

Not enough protein or liquids.  Journal and keep track of that if you really want to try to lose more quickly.
