I DON'T WANT A CPAP MACHINE!!!!
Yes, along the lines of what others have said, my intended surgeon will cancel your surgery if your C-PAP electronic record card doesn't prove you've used it every day for the month prior to surgery. The program also requires that you bring the machine to the hospital with you when getting your surgery.
The machine's noise is like a white-noise machine (a steady low-level hiss). My husband has always used a real white-noise machine for sleeping (he wakes easily), so C-PAP would cause no problem.
Figuring out how to make the machine work for you can take time, and can feel like hell. I had to seek therapeutic hypnosis to deal with the aversion I had to my first mask - a full face mask that covered the mouth too. (Hated that mask.) Then, I got a nose-only mask with a chin strap. (Yes, lovely. Quite the picture. I told my child that it's a 'fighter pilot mask.") With the humidifer built-in. The machines nowadays are relatively small. You can get lots of tips and support at sleepnet's OSA/C-PAP formus online.
I love my C-PAP. I don't fall asleep driving or at my desk or in meetings anymore! --- I can say I slept at the White House 'cuz I feel asleep in a meeting there way back in the day, before C-PAP life. ;)
So, I'd say: Don't delay! :)
