RNY on 7/15
Big hugs are going out to you right now!
I had RNY on August 4, 2009. Here are some fabulous things about that:
I am now at 141 pounds and wear a size 6 pants/skirts/dresses
I wear a small or medium petite shirt
I am satisfied with one or two bites of some sort of goodie
I eat healthy high protein/low carb meals
I eat like a skinny person
I feel like a skinny person
I love clothes shopping now
People tell me I am so skinny they can barely see me if I turn sideways!
These are all things you have to look forward to! You can do this and you will be thrilled with the results!
Take good care of yourself. You will really rock this surgery!

Hugs,
I am hoping to have surgery in the next couple of months.
I am just cramming up on all the info I can from the boards. I think I will get myself a note book and start writing down info about vitamins, proteins, things to take to the hospital etc;
I am also starting to get in touch with some companies and get/buy samples of some of the protein drinks to see if there are some i like more than others.
It will go in no time. All the best.

Thanks everyone! I am a bundle of nerves.....from will I lose weight? will I be able to keep the weight off? how will I do going back to work? I hear a lot about head hunger and also gas worried about that also!!!! Any tips to make this transition? What should I have at home? what should I take to the hospital? what should I expect?
I am reading weight loss surgery for dummies. that has some good info.

Tia, my surgery was 7/15/09.
I just hit my 100 pound mark this week, and I am delighted. Yes, the nerves are very normal, but rest assured that you may very well have a smooth recovery, and have confidence in your surgeon. Follow his/her directions to a "T" and you will do well.
I have been blessed with a recovery and first year (almost) that was better than I could have anticipated. No real "head hunger" issues - while some foods do sound good from time to time, the truth is that they don't appeal to me much any more. My eating is pretty simple, but very nutritionally balanced and I like it that way.
Ah, the lovely "gas" issue. Walk a lot immediately post op to alleviate gas pains. Gentle twisting exercises from side to side, and gentle side bends will help as well. Do these several times a day as you walk in the hospital. Once home, Gas X strips will be your friend if needed. I actually find that I need them more now than earlier in the game.
Travel light to the hospital. I do recommend your own pillow, lip gloss, and supportive slip on tennies or crocs for your walking. The floors are unusually hard in the hospital and slippers alone aren't enough support for your feet!
To prepare for your homecoming, I'd suggest the following:
Clean your house.
Cook ahead for the family, if you have to deal with that - make it easy on yourself for the first couple of weeks out.
Toss out your "trigger foods" that may be lurking in the pantry. You won't need them.
Stock your pantry with herbal tea (mint and ginger are good for digestion), broth, SF popsicles, SF jello, SF pudding, soups (not tomato based), and protein powder.
Take your "before pics." Good, bad, or ugly - you will be glad you did!
Feel free to send me a PM if you would like to correspond since we share a date!
