Peanut Butter during Soft Foods?

I'm sure someone tried this during soft foods phase. I'm almost 5 weeks out and I would really like to cut out my protein shakes completely and get my protein from food. Right now I'm eating 1 egg a day and try to have one "protein meal" (tuna or other seafood) but then I'm left searching for that third dose of protein. A tablespoon of peanut butter and a banana sound good but I don't want to hurt my progress if I shouldn't be eating PB yet.

Thanks in advance all!!!

I love peanut butter and I tried it at about 4 weeks out and did fine. I just tried banana yesterday for the first time since surgery and it went do great I was a very happy person.  You should be fine with it.

Jus****ch the fat in it...it could upset your stomach...

You should get yourself some PB2 if you like peanut butter...much better for you

PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter
It's what's not in PB2 that makes it so good for you. For starters, our special process removes 85% of the fat calories without the chemicals typically used in producing reduced fat foods. Something else you won't find in PB2 is preservatives. What you will find is natural roasted peanut flavor that's also available in a rich chocolate variety.

Peanut butter and crackers have been on my list since about 4 days out from surgeon.  I am only a little over a week out and have had them like 3 times.

The PB and/or banana should be fine.  I would try one at a time just in case you do have a reaction to one of them, that way it would be easy to identify which one was the offender.........

I would also caution you early on about the thinking process of "eating your protein" and cutting out drinking the protein shakes.  Not a good idea....  Drinking the protein, as vile as it may seem right now, will be the major key to your wl success.  Once you start the process of trying to eat enough protein to meet your daily requirements, you're also talking continuing to take in the the fats, calories and carbs of solid foods, whereas the shakes have none or very little.  That's where your weight lose comes from , as well as it helps to fuel muscles.  So please stick with the shakes, after awhile it just becomes a way of life rather than a chore.......Just my opinion!.......

Best wishes in your wl journey.

My surgeons plan has me completely off protein shakes by Week6 and then he says only use when completely necessary. This goes completely against just about everyone I've seen on here who has at least one a day.

I really just wish there was one "Plan" that we were all on so it wouldnt be so complicated.

My sister is a bariatric dietitian, and she works solely with WLS patients--yes, I get the irony.  :-) She says WLS patients should consume 5 small meals a day that should typically consist of 3 balanced meals (50% protein, 25-35% veggies,  and 15%-25% complex carbs/fruit, etc.)-as breakfast, lunch, & dinner-and 2 zero or low carb protein supplements (e.g. Isopure Zero Carb drinks, Isopure Zero Carb powder, Muscle Milk Light, Protidiet, Wonderslim, Bariwise, etc.) in between. Also, she said that you should eat your highest carb meal about 1 hour before your workout and have one of your protein supplements immediately following the workout.

PB does have some protein, but for the amount of calories and fat it really isn't such a good source of protein.

You can have a Pure Peanut butter protein bar for the same amount of calories (200 for bar and 200 for 2 Tablespoon PB).  The protein bar will give you 20 grams protein.  Often I can only eat 1/2 bar.  Peanut Butter has 6-9 gms protein in 2 Tbs.

Often many of us don't measure out our PB and can easily eat two or three servings before stopping.  If peanut butter is a food you couldn't control before WLS - go easy.

As for bananas, a higher carb fruit, might start with just 1/4 of one to see how it sits in your pouch.

Best wishes.
