Do you remember anything about your surgery??

I remember being rolled into the operating room and noticing that it looked a lot different than I had expected. I remember thinking that they must have forgotten to give me whatever they had said they would to calm my nerves, because my nerves weren't calmed at all. Then the anethesiologist put something into my IV and that was it. I think that I was awake in Recovery for a few moments, then out again until I was in my room.
This was the only time that the anethesia really made me feel icky. I've had a few other surgeries, and never had a problem. This time, though, I was super naseated. They told me that it was probably because of the length of time I was out (about four hours). I felt much worse from the anethesia than I did the actual incisions. Since then, I've had anethesia two more times and haven't had any trouble with it.

It was more likely the particular anesthesia they gave you than the amount of time you were "under". I have had a dozen surgeries (including plastic surgeries) and only been nauseous at all once (and it was a brief outpatient surgery).. and that one time it was really nasty. Just like all other drugs, people react differently to different anesthesia drugs.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
The only time I was nauseas postop was after RNY.... for about 12 hours postop, I wanteed to throw up every time I walked...so I never got more than a dozen yards each time I attempted to walk like a good girl. I was terrified I'd signed up for a lifetime of nausea... but it went away. I'm sensitive to anaesthesia... I think that up until my RNY I was always giving more than necessary because I always had a hard time coming out of it.... but I haven't had that problem since RNY (Only one procedure since).

I chased my dreams, and my dreams, they caught me!
I remember all the pre op up until my doctor came in to tell me the anastegiolgist( yeah i don't know if that's right) would be in soon and they were giving me something to calm my nerves. I remember waking up in recovery for a few minutes to tell my nurse I was hurting and that was it. Next thing I new I was in my room with my husband.
I have noticed my words get mixed up. I say words backwards a lot. But I think it's mostly due to being so tired. I'm not getting enough rest.

They give you Versed preop and it's an amnesiac drug... you can talk and respond logically and scoot onto the surgery table, and spill your deepest darkest secrets, but you won't remember a jot.
From my surgery I remember the anaesthesiologist coming in and preparing to give me the versed, and me kissing hubby goodbye, and walking towards the OR... and then my memory gets a little into left field... I remember a dank dark dungeon like OR with black moldy walls, and a chicken and a goat standing on the OR table... and deciding that I didn't want the surgery after all, and that was all that was on my mind postop when I woke up... that I'd decided against it.

I have had some surgeries where they gave me the Versed (the typical "courage"/"calming" medicine you get prior to the actual general anesthesia) while in the pre-op area and I remember nothing except the trip down the hall. Other times, they have not given me anything until I got into the OR (or not at all), and I was awake long enough to feel them strapping my arm down. When I had my hernia repair, I was awake enough to watch them do some of the pre and to notice cell phone or pager numbers for my surgeon and one of the other surgeons written on a white board.
I have had a bunch of surgeries (a dozen including PS) with general anesthesia and only once have I been asked to count backwards (and that was YEARS ago).
If you are not getting enough carbs, it affects brain functioning... primarliy memory and mood regulation. Once you increase your carbs, the memory problems should pass.
