Since hair seems to be the big topic...what about having your hair chemically treated post...

Kertain is what your hair and nails are composed of- and this treatment applies keratin to your hair and then seals it using a flat iron. It is not something you do on your own- it is applied professionally and can actually be quite expensive; I was charged $200, plus another $40 for special shampoo and conditioner that you have to use- but I found it to be worth the expense. My best friend has the treatment done by someone who comes to her house and charges her $175 and herhair is actually a lottttt thicker and longer than mine- and I think her hair looks better than the way mine does even though I am very happy with the results. The salon I went to uses la brasiliana (la-brasiliana.com) although I am sure there are several different brands available- the shampoo and conditioner the salon gave me are from the same company. They first washed my hair with a special shampoo, applied the keratin treatment with a spray bottle, blow dry, spray again and flat ironed it (my hair would sizzle it was very scary lol). They do very small sections at a time spraying and then using a fine tooth comb to spread it out evenly over each strand. The biggest down side is that you can not wash your hair or even get it wet for several days (the salon said 3, the products website said 4 so i went with 4 to be safe) and youre not supposed to pull your hair back or clip it either. I looked like a real greaseball by day 3 it was gross. The treatment lasts about 2-4 months depending on the person and I guess how well you care for it. We'll see how long it lasts for me, but I'm really happy with the results and I have seen nearly no hair loss since doing it.

I dyed my roots about 7 days before my surgery, which is in 5 days, so that was a couple days ago... I will be dying it again when I see all the grey hairs glittering at me... I'd rather be bald than let everyone see how many of the hairs on my head are grey, lol... At least if I do go bald, I can get a wig and it won't have grey hairs either!

Now, I know that is vain in the worst way, but that is what my mother taught me and I learned it well, lol... There are so many beautiful women in my family that have let their hair gracefully go salt in the front and pepper in the back, but I AM NOT ONE OF THEM!! I will be Nutrisse #66, or 69 FOREVER!! :D I'm only 34 and I don't plan on embracing the grey until I'm at least 55 or 60, lol...

Huggles!!

I had the same question, but was told it was ok so went and had my hair colored about 3 months after surgery. Color took fine and I don't think it's affected my hair at all. I've had some hair loss, but not clumps. And my hair, though thinner, still looks great. Always thought it was my best feature.

I colored my hair less than a month post op.  Honestly, I really think it's individual...  I haven't lost any of my hair (yes, knocking on wood right now)...  I do lose some single hairs when I put stuff in my hair, but not clumps.  I think you should just wait and see how you are doing and how your hair is at the point when you will need to do the treatment on your hair again.  Maybe you may have to extend it a week or two, but I'm sure you will be fine to do what you normally do.  Good luck!

I'm a curly girl.   I embrace my curls and I think this has helped me not damange my hair any further than I need to.  I never bru**** (only comb it when wet with conditioner)...

I have color done every 4-6 weeks.  no changes in my hair.. it's THINNER but it was pretty thick to begin with so it's not noticable and I do not have thin spots..

oh and I made sure to have plenty of protein and good fats at all times after intitial recovery... the doc says the good fats helped me not lose my hair.

I had mine permed at about 6 months post-op because I was losing so much of it.  My hairdresser and surgeon both said it would be ok.  Between months 4 and 8 (or 9), I lost (literally) half of my hair despite biotin even before surgery and getting in all my protein every day even early out.  Are the two related?  Your guess is as good as mine (although my guess is that they are not... that I would have lost the same amount of ahir even without the perm... )
