Hair Relaxer ??
Hey DeboraBoyd,
How long ago was your surgery? I understand you should not put a relaxer in your hair for a couple of months. They said your hair will come out some without a relaxer, so with one it will come out more. I know how you feel, I haven't even hand my surgery yet and I was told not to put a relaxer in my hair until after my surgery. So, for me it's gonna be awhile LOL. You can try a press and curl. Well good luck with whatever you decide.
The time from for most hair loss begins at 3 months and ends at 8-9 months for most post ops. Your hair begins growing back when it falls out, but at a very slow rate. From the 100+ support meetings I've attended, using items on your hair besides shampoo or cream rinse isn't recommended until your near the end of this hair loss period. Your body is in shock from surgery, and your new die doesn't help retain hair either. Any major surgery can cause hair loss. I'd be cautious on doing to much that might either cause additional hair loss or delay the hair growth process. DAVE

I asked this question a while, and if you look through my latest posts, you might be able to find the link from it.
Basically, what seemed to be the consensus is that hair grows on a cycle. So there is hair that is damaged from the trauma of having surgery and from the low protein. It takes a few months for that hair's cycle to come around again, and it is then that it falls out. The hair that you lose, is from damage done 3-6 months before, at the time of surgery. Basically, if you're going to lose it, you're going to lose it. The chemicals really don't make it worse because the damage has already been done. One woman had posted that her hair stylist has worked with a lot of WLS clients and it isn't an issue. Some people say that a biotin supplement helps. That won't help you not lose hair, it just helps with the regrowth of hair. The best thing is to start getting your protein in as soon as possible!
