No desire to drink fluids

I'm so frustrated with this.  Since surgery, I have not had any issues with foods. I eat well (I measure everything) and that is going pretty great.  The trouble is that I now have no desire to drink anything.  I have to force myself to drink and it makes getting anywhere near my daily goals so hard.  Has anyone else had trouble with not having a desire to drink and does it get better?

I did not want to drink much very early out, either, so I ate a LOT of SF popsicles (some were store-bought, some were made with Crystal Light/Porpel and the old Tupperware popsicle molds).  Yes, it got better after a few weeks (but I am just NOT a big drinker... never have been... so I barely get 64 oz in even now).

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

I do the same eat SF popsicles. I don't get 64oz in a day. I just can't seem to drink that much.
But me too I was never a big drinker.

Fluids are an important part of your health.  The most common reason for readmission to the hosptial after RNY, is dehdration.  Some members of my support groups haver issues with drinking plain water. They commonly add lemon or some 100% fruit juice or crystal lite to their water, to make it more palatable to them.  You need to "grow some desire" or you may face kidney failure issues.  Dark urine is a sign of poor hydration.  The bariatric nurse, who assists the surgeon who did my surgery, attends 2 support meetings I attend monthly. She routinely stresses the importantance of drinking fluids and warns of kidney issues from not drinking water. DAVE

I can so relate. I drink so much more now than I ever did but barely get to 55 ounces per day. It has slowly gotten better with my increasing my exercise. I think the sipping made it hard to get much accomplished too. Now that my pouch can handle more normal drinking, I seem to get in more. As long as you're making enough urine and aren't constipated, just keep progressing toward the goal. The popsicle thing as suggested helps but they really don't add that much to the fluid goal.  I found sugarfree popsicles but they are less than 3 oz and the homemade molds are even smaller. Just don't get discouraged and keep trying different things.

I had my surgery on 08/17 and experiencing the same thing. I simply hate water. I tried it with Crystal light, lemon, decaf ice tea, bit of fruit juice, Flavored water but nothing really seems to work. The most I can do is 2-3 glass of water and that also only with a lots of ice. I tried SF particles too. I am worried and I know I need to drink 64oz a day. Feeling helpless and don't understand what to do. I spoke with my NUT and she told me not to stress out just keep the bottle with you and u will start drinking.

You are only 2-3 weeks out and only drinking 2 or 3 glasses of fluids a day is going to land you back in the hospital. Are you drinking any protein drinks? These count as fluids. I used to be a big water drinker preop but now that I can't drink with my meals I find it hard to get my fluids in.  I found a solution to the problem - I drink 3 protein drinks aday - 20 ounces each giving me 60ounces of fluids and 105 grams of protein. Covers all bases.

Take a scoop and a half of protein powder (I use chocolate whey protein) and add it to either no sugar added hot chocolate, coffee or tea.  Add a little milk to taste and you get 35 grams of protein. Depending on how large of a cup or mug you use, determines how much fluid you get. I use a very large mug and get 20 ounces of fluids.

So what you don't desire to.  Heck, half the things I do in life I don't desire to.  I didn't desire to get out of bed this morning.  I have responsibilities.  Things I need to do because they are the right thing to do.

You drink whether you desire to or not.  It is a choice - not a feeling.  Our body needs hydration and it gets sick without the hydration it needs and doesn't function.

Many days I don't desire to eat - but I do because I need nutrition and energy to function.

You can do hard things.  Choose to do the next right thing.

Penny... good answer.  Most of us got into the trouble we had because we'd do nothing other than what we desired.  The consequences led us to radical surgery.  Desire is overrated.

I had surgery about two weeks before you did.  In the last 4 days or so, I'm not having any trouble drinking.  Before that, I had no interest.  I found it very hard to get 64oz. in.  I wasn't intentionally skipping it, I just wouldn't think to drink.
