Goodwill vs. Ross or TJ Maxx?

Don't forget about Ebay - I find lots of good stuff there.  I like Anne Klein, Jones NY, Calvin Klein - and can usually find some great used pieces there.

I have bought a few things at local consignment shops - one near my home had a lot of Chico's  and designer brands.  When I go to stores like SteinMart or Ross Dress for Less, I tend to go to the reduction racks.  Scored some beautiful sweaters for $10 each at the local SteinMart this week.  I am particular about my dress slacks and only but JCPenny's East 5th brand.  I wait for them to go on sale for $17.99 but will wear them until I need a size that is two sizes smaller.  I can't stand baggy butts!!.

The goodwill stores  here have a small amount of dressy clothes  and I haven't looked at the Salvation Army yet.

Check with your local dry cleaner. Some times they will tell you which thrift store they drop off at and on what day. You can follow them there. Some  will even give you the clothes if you express the need and pay for the cleaning...its all stuff that has been left there longer than whatever their policy is...usually 30-60+days.

You could also check Craig's List or  look for a local consignement shop. They often have better stuff than goodwill.

Good luck!

Check for more alterations pricing. Call 6 or 7 Dry Cleaners and google seamstresses in your area and call them for pricing. Explain that you'll be a valued and loyal customer for a long time because you can lose the weight but that doesn't mean everything will fit perfectly and you have to look professional. If you have quality suits, your best investment is to have the jackets altered as you can wear them separately with new pieces. If you buy new, always shop for items that will blend in with your current stuff so you are constantly extending your wardrobe and not your budget.

Me, I'm a size 10, but my waist is 12 inches smaller than my hips so I have to alter the waist or everyone knows the color of my panties. I sew and can do most of my own alterations but I also have someone who is reasonable to do the pieces I won't do but
can't bear to part with either.
