Zicam still okay to take post-RNY?

I will call my surgeon's office tomorrow morning, but in the interim I thought I would ask...

Does anyone know if it's still safe to use Zicam for colds after RNY surgery? I feel a cold coming on, and had used Zicam a few times before surgery to minimize the impact of an oncoming cold. I used the chewables, but I know there's also a nose spray. (And I'll need to check the sugar content, but I'm afraid of the chewables post-surgery.)

Anyone have experience with any Zicam products post-surgery?

(I tried searching the archives, but I'm only seeing pre-surgery "uh-oh I have a cold and my surgery's in three days" kinds of posts.)

Thanks!

Laura

I think I saw something about this on Dr. Oz, saying Zicam doesn't work. However, zinc is something that some post-RNYers take regularly as a supplement so I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed. It does come in a nasal spray and some you rub inside the nose. Never worked much for me I find the netti pot to be the best medicine for a cold or sinus problem post surgery or any other time. I have been lucky enough not to get too many colds now that I eat much better or if I get them the duration and intensity of the cold is much much less. I have tried a few tylenol based products without incident. You could also take vitamin C that may work as well if not better than the Zicam.

Thanks! I may try a bit of all of those! (Still waiting to hear back from the doctor's office. Guess a cold isn't high on the triage list!)
