DS vs. RYN?
Oh! so DS is a "gourmet" version of wls...ummm...well now that explains it...No, I didn't have and extra $50K laying around either...thanks Victoria....that helped explain it...now maybe if I could send Carnie Wilson, Star Jones, Al Roker, Randy Jackson, Andrae and Sandra Crouch an email cause I know they got the ends and ask them why they didn't choose "DS"....@Victoria I wonder how many insurances cover DS the first time and/or revisions from RNY.....I am going to look into that but not for me...I am just glad to be back healthy
Oh DS is not perfect. They get gas and immediate bathroom runs are the most common side effect. But there has to be more to it. I have about 4 friends who have had RYN and are thrilled with it. I know of nobody except internet people who have had the DS done. I worry about the long term effects of malabsorption with either surgery.
You do realize that DS is also a malabsorptive surgery?
RNY Gastric Bypass 1-8-08 350/327/200 (HW/SW/CW). I spend most of my time playing with my food over at Bariatric Foodie - check me out!
It's not like that at all. Nobody wears Depends or has frequent "accidents." Statements like the one you made above - not intending, I am sure, to give offense - are a really, really big sore spot among DSers. Saying them on a public message board - even a solely RNY message board - only perpetuates this myth as the newbies hanging out here will accept it as gospel when it comes from a veteran.
It's just not true.
It's just not true.
It is an issue for some DSers. It was for me and others I know. Not common and there are RNYers that have had that problem. It may not be an issue for you but you can't say it's not an issue for anyone.
WLS 10/28/2002 Revision 7/23/2010
High Weight (2002) 240 Revision Weight (2010) 220 Current Weight 115.
Would you agree, then, that it's not an issue for most DSers, especially for those who are willing to be compliant with their diet, as you've already said was the cause of your issues?
I certainly am not going to jump on you, and I'm sorry that you had a bad outcome with the DS - you're one of a handful of people that I've heard of that haven't. I have a question for you, though, and since I'm long-winded by nature, I have to preface it. A few years back, there was a hugely vocal contingent of DSers claiming that we could eat whatever we wanted and using that claim to "sell" the DS. We both know that this is not true unless what you want to eat is a lower-carb, higher-fat, higher-protein diet (which, in my case, is true). Do you think you bought into that "sales pitch" and didn't modify your diet because you thought it was true?
I'm really interested in hearing your response
