DS vs. RYN?
More normal - will be with VSG.
But to answer your question... why did I have RNY? because I did not want lap band, and my doc did not do DS, or VSG at that time. Today I would have VSG.

..I am so sorry that you had to go under the knife twice but congrats on the weight loss and I wish you sincere success one day at a time....You have my support...that was my only point that no matter what surgery you have, there may be complications, revisions, and sacrifices of parts of our anatomy..The end result should be that we are alive and have a good quality and quantity of life to live!!!!
I personally know 3 people who have had a DS. 1 is doing great. 1 has re-gained a huge amount of weight. 1 is getting too small & has reactive hypoglycemia (my sister).
I just think it's a personal choice that should be discussed with your doctor. My dd is working through her "supervised diet" and hopes to get a DS in spring.
I wish you the best whatever your decision.

I chose RNY because I didn't want to be able to eat the things that got me to 321 pounds. I needed something to aid in my behavioral change. I knew there was only a small chance I'd be a dumper, but that was ok with me. And the surgeon that I fell in love with, felt the most comfortable with, and understood me best as a patient, did not perform DS.
I am a dumper (I dumped on anything that tasted sweet for a while), and I can't handle a lot of fat or grease without getting sick.
I don't knock DS - I know some people who are very successful with it. Yay for them! Bottom line - research it, and do what's best for you.
