Steristrip fell off

Do you think its ok to put a bandaid on it? they said to wait a week and then if they didnt come off on thier own to pull them off, but the incision doesnt look very healed it actually still opens just a little bit.  I dont think its something I should run to the ER for or call my surgeon about, but I dont want it to get infected either.

 I would say to use your judgement...if it looks like a bandaid could be useful, then it certainly cant hurt anything.  My Mother in law and I had our surgeries day before you and yesterday one of her incisions started bleeding pretty badly.  She called our surgeon and he said not to run to the ER, everything on the inside was nicely sutured after surgery, just to apply gauze and change as needed.  Sounds like yours isn't even close to that bad, so I would think a bandaid would be perfect.

 When I had the staples taken out some of the holes were still pulling open so the nurse put steristrips on them...........well, they kept coming off so I had to put my own over them.  I used bandaids just be sure the gauze part touches the incision you don't want the sticky part to stick to the incision...........I also bought steristrips at walmart in the bandaid section for just over a dollar.  The scars will look better if the incisions stay closed while they heal. I had three stubborn incisions that took quite awhile to close up.

oh awesome I didnt know I could get them at a store I thought only from a doctor. Looks like ill be making a trip to walmart in the morning but for the night a bandaid will have to do, thanks!!

When my steristrip fell off, the incision was still a little open as well.  It scabbed over after a couple of days.  It was no big deal...just don't pick at it or mess with it too much.  If it starts leaking any fluid, or bleeding badly, you can call your doctor, but a trip to the ER is definitely not necessary.  I wouldn't even put a bandaid on it.  Just keep it clean and let the air dry it out.

Band aid is fne. Not an ER trip. jsut make sure you change and pat the area dry after you shower and you should be fine.

I had open RNY, so I have a 3 inch longline incision, and my steristrips started coming off a few days after I came home.  No big deal.  Just don't pull them off on purpose.  Just keep it clean and dry.  If you feel you need more security than that, you can get steristrips in the first aid section at any store.
