I use nectar whey protein shakes, and they have started giving me baaad diarrhea. Any clue as to why? They have no sugar in them! I'm not sure what other brand to buy, or if i should try some other type of protein. I do drink them fairly fast, could that be the cause of it? Two flavors are doing this to me!

Thanks in advance,
W

I think u r on the right track of thinking that u may be drinking them too fast.  Try drinking over 20 minutes....see if that helps.
ofcourse, trying a different brand of protein may help.
Good Luck!

If you've tolerated these before, and had no issues, then there might be a couple of possiblities. New foods should be tried one per day. That way you can determine if one particular food is the issue.  Another thing I found is that I personally had an issue with the antibiotic CIPRO--it kills off good and bad bacteria, and diarrhea is the result.  I had not changed any foods and had 7 days of what I though was terminal diarrhea. My PCP explained how the CIPRO caused this issue.  So, you happen to have started on an antibiotic a day or two before the diarrhea started, that might be the issue.  DAVE

What are u mixing the powder with?  If it is milk you could be lactose intollerant.  If it is water, then maybe you are whey intollerant.  I was whey intollerant post op and had to change to soy protein.  This has resolved now, but I rarely drink shakes so it isn't so important.  If its not the lactose, maybe try soy protein.  Hope things slow down for u soon!!

I am having the same problem and I am not mixing with milk and using a different brand. I need to try what he said and only do one new food a day, but I don't have that kind of patience 8)
I think it is one of the side effects of this surgery that who knows what is going to do this to you if it doeant play nice in the tummy. I have found that coffee is nearly guaranteed to do it to me also.

I mix with bottled water, and have found the foods that upset me and those that don't, and have narrowed it down to the shakes... well, and coffee, but I don't have it that often. Is soy the next protein choice after whey? Soy can cause you to have more estrogen in your body.

One suggestion would be to try a fast-acting lactaid tablet with the shake. Some people have a lactose intolerance that only manifests with whey shakes, even with whey isolate.

Might be worth a shot before you throw in the towel on whey.
