Sorry to ask but.....yellow poop?

I really TRIED to find an answer to this but have not found one yet.  Has anyone had soft, yellow stools?  I've had this more than not since my surgery.  I am not having any pain except some cramping at times when I go.  My stomach gets a little queasy at times, but has since surgery.  I have not found a dietary connection, but who knows?
I would really appreciate some input.
Thanks and Happy New Year!

Malabsorption can cause this, but so can other issues with pancreas, liver...

Please call your doctor.

I have that sometimes too. I had it a lot after surgery. It is much more normal now. I am interested to know what your Dr. says since I have that too and was worried about my liver since thats what they say when I google it.

Kelley, I would ask your own doctor. What may or may not be normal for him may not be so for you. your own Doctor is the best judge of that.

Mine has been soft and yellow since two weeks after surgery. I chalked it up to the protein shakes. No pain or cramping and no constipation (suffered from that since I was a child).

I really think this is kinda normal. I have this type more than not. My thought is that my body has used up all the good stuff and this is what is left. I notice that this stool has a nastier odor too. TMI, TMI-but you asked

How much fat are you eating?  Fatty stools can usually be soft and yellow.  With our malabsorption we don't fully absorb the fat we eat so it just passes through our system.

It's funny because I just asked my doctor the same question about 2.5 weeks ago. He said it was normal and likely do to the protien shakes. I'm eating very little fat as my diet consists largely of protien shakes, soft foods and some deli meat. The good news is that I have a bowel movement almost everyday (a bit unusual for me I have to admit). Best of luck to you. Let us know what your doc says.

Thanks cor p99.  Did your doc say why the protein shakes can cause this?  I can't put that together in my mind but I like a simple explanation.  I'll give my doc a call next week and see what he has to say.  And I am the same way with bowel movements-pretty much everyday now.  I think I was born constipated so this is very unusual for me but sure makes my tummy feel better.
Thanks for responding!

I did some research & it seems like it could be mild 'dumping syndrome' (which is very normal after any kind of Bariatric procedure). From what I understand, instead of digesting/fully digesting food, sometimes our new stomachs/pouches dump food directly into our intestinal track. Our intestines then try to digest the food stuffs that our stomachs did not. One of the hardest things for intestines/colons to break down is sorbitol (a sweetener). I believe the sorbitol is behind my unusually colored stools.

I also want to point out that a lot of companies that produce protein shakes use sorbitol as a sweetener. I checked my Atkins shakes & it's used in them.

Hopefully this was helpful. Good luck everyone!
