I have a few questions:
1. What do you all think about Russell Stover Sugar Free candies? I havent eaten them considering Im only 5 days out, but I used to eat them and Im wondering if they are good for us Post Op?

2. Bowel Movement- I am 5 days out and havent had one since morning of surgery-bout an hour b4 surgery, is that Bad?

3. Being Emotional right now, I woke up this afternoon crying my eyes out cause I am really hungry, everything I see has to do with food. And I dont know what to do.

4. Abdominal Swelling and itchyness-My stomach is still swollen and sort of "hard", and it is itchy. Is that because I am healing so its going to itch or no?

5. Sugar free:Mousse, Pudding, Smucker jam, Oh and Baby Cereal?- What do you think of that for my Puree food Stage starting Tuesday?

6. Peanut Butter-are we allowed-If so which kind is the best for us.

7. I been trying to get in all my water, but OMG it is hard. I try Ice tea, and broth as well but Broth is old and I cant do it. Jello doesnt sit with me at all...Any ideas?

I know I still have alot more questions to ask since I am really going through it right now, but Im trying to get ideas as I go along. I would appreciate all comments, and ideas that you may all have! Thanks!

I am not an expert by any means but I will let you know what was "normal" for me

1. I love Russell stover sf candy....I eat 1 or 2 at a time and have done fine with it. I think I had my first candy when I was about 6 weeks out. It was WONDERFUL...lol

2. I went 4-5 days after surgery with out having a BM....I think that's pretty normal

3. I wasn't hungery for the first 4 weeks after surgery...just the thought of food made me sick to my stomach...so I never had a problem with that part.

4. I didnt have this problem either.

5. All of that sounds good for puree stage...I would see about adding high protein yogert in there or adding protein power to somethings as well.

6.I asked my NUT about peanut butter early out, she said because peanut butter is so sticky it may get that "stuck" feeling...so I would eat it...just be careful. I just had Jiffy PB and did fine.

****er was hard for me at first also....I found sugar free hot chocolate was easier, I dont know if it's because it was hot or if it was because it's CHOCOLATE :)

Hope all goes well for you!!

7.  water is ALL i drink outside of a morning coffee/tea...  cant tolerate anything else

1)  I haven't tried them, but I think I will a little later on :)
2)  I had the same issue.  It took a week and then it came.  They had me start taking colace laxatives in the hospital and continue at home.
3)  I didn't have any hunger until about the past week.
4)  OMG, the itching drove me nuts.  I still itch around my mostly healed incisions.  I figure it's because of the healing.
5)  Those all sound good to me!
6)  Not sure.
7)  I had no problem with water.  I "craved water and ice" starting as soon as I woke from surgery.  I had issues with not wanting to eat.  Are you allowed Crystal Light?

Good luck :)

1. What do you all think about Russell Stover Sugar Free candies?  I think they would be okay to try when you're further out from surgery.  Your stomach has just been through some MAJOR reconstruction and it's best if you choose mild, non-irritating foods.  Even without surgery, many people have major reactions to sugar alchohols.  I'm thinking it could make the post-op gas pains unbearably bad.

2. Bowel Movement- I am 5 days out and havent had one since morning of surgery-bout an hour b4 surgery, is that Bad?  No BMs for 5 days is certainly not good!  Are you able to drink the recommended amount of fluids.  If you haven't had a BM by tomorrow morning, I'd recommend calling your surgeon's office... just to see what they have to say.

3. Being Emotional right now, I woke up this afternoon crying my eyes out cause I am really hungry, everything I see has to do with food. And I dont know what to do.  Sorry to hear that you're having a rough go of things.  It's fairly normal to feel extra emotional during the weeks following surgery.  I remember feeling like almost every commercial on TV was for foods... and all of the foods that were being advertised were things I couldn't have!  Warm ginger and mint teas seemed to settle on my stomach well when I was post op.  I almost constantly sipped on cups of tea.  That helped me feel full and sated.

4. Abdominal Swelling and itchyness-My stomach is still swollen and sort of "hard", and it is itchy. Is that because I am healing so its going to itch or no?  I don't recall any swelling or hardness in my belly.  If the itching is at your incision sites, it could just be the sensation of healing.  Otherwise, it might be a reaction to one of your pain medications.  Is there any visible rash where it itches?

5. Sugar free:Mousse, Pudding, Smucker jam, Oh and Baby Cereal?- What do you think of that for my Puree food Stage starting Tuesday?  Every surgeon has different "rules" for post op eating.  You could try pudding, but I'd recommend initially trying it thinned out.  If it agrees with your pouch, you could try it a bit thicker.  Be very careful when having carb-y things like SF jam or baby cereal.  There are lots of folks who dump on carbs... even relatively small amounts.  I would think that the carbs in jam and baby cereal would pass into your system more quickly than something like pureed beans.  This link might help you with some ideas of what to try: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html

6. Peanut Butter-are we allowed-If so which kind is the best for us.  I can't answer this one.  I haven't tried PB yet.  I've only tried peanut flour in a protein shake and in protein pudding.

7. I been trying to get in all my water, but OMG it is hard. I try Ice tea, and broth as well but Broth is old and I cant do it. Jello doesnt sit with me at all...Any ideas?  Initially, my pouch was very cranky when I tried to have cold liquids.  So, I drank a lot of herbal and green teas.  Mint, lemon-ginger and ginger tea made from fresh grated ginger root seemed to settle best.  I also drank caffeine-free orange tea, Lipton orange, jasmine and passionfruit and an assortment of other teas.  It is really difficult to get your liquids in... but do your best to get as much in as possible!

*These are just my suggestions/ideas... by no means am I an expert in what will work for everyone!*

When I was 1 year out, I started eating SF candies.  Then, I entered a big time / major stall.  Once I stopped the SF candies, the weight slooooooooooooowly resumed.  I am off of sugar alcohols now.

You may fare better than me.  Just remain vigilant of stalls while eating SF candies.

1. What do you all think about Russell Stover Sugar Free candies? I  would rather be shot dead. Seriously. LOL Sugar alcohols and I are NOT friends. On the other hand, if you want to take the biggest stinkiest **** of your life, go to it. :D
2. Bowel Movement- I wouldn't say bad, but I'd say you need something to happen pretty soon. Take colace or miralax or both and relax. It won't hurt as bad as your imagination.
3. Yep, normal. I cried if someone so much as looked at me funny. Hormones are a ***** Feel free to text me and scream cuss words a la tourettes if it helps. LOL 757-477-7623. Sometimes it helps just to have an out.
4. Abdominal Swelling and itchyness-My stomach is still swollen and sort of "hard", and it is itchy. Again, pretty normal. Walk, drink, repeat, walk, drink, repeat...ad naseum.

5. Sugar free:Mousse, Pudding, Smucker jam, Oh and Baby Cereal?- What do you think of that for my Puree food Stage starting Tuesday? Sounds good. Just be careful about sugar alcohols.

6. I have eaten Jif since the get go. Love it. It's a staple in my diet.

7. Iced tea doesn't count unless it's decaf. Just making ya aware of that. Just about everything else liquid counts though. Yogurt, SF popsicles, SF fudgesicles, milk, soup, cottage cheese. If it's liquid, count it!

You are doing great! Be proud!

Ain't that the truth!   Shouldn't that be "****s" plural?  The SF candy taste better than the other "movers" out there and almost guaranteed to work!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!
