clothing sizes?
I've currently lost 41lbs....you would think that would mean that I've dropped at least one clothing size....NOPE....I can still wear (nicely) the same clothes that I was wearing before.....they are just not as tight as they were before.
I think it is all how you carry your weight.....I have a smaller waiste but big butt and thighs.....so my size 18's that I'm wearing....someone that is 20lbs heavier then I am could be in the same size.
I'm not going to buy anything new until I hit "my" first mini goal...and that is still 14lbs away.

I kept alot of my clothes that I had gotten too big for, thought one day I will get in these again. I gave away clothes to a friends mom that is also the same size I was. I started at wearing a size 30 pants and 3X-4X tops. I am now in a 14-16 top and a 18-20 bottom. I have just gotten to where I had to buy some new clothes. I buy them a little tight and wear them until they are falling off of me. I can't afford to buy a new wardrobe in every size. The first thing I had to buy was bras. My boobs were the first weight I lost I think....not exactly where I was looking to lose from, but can't change it. My doc says that most women "melt" from the top down. So your face will be the first thing that people notice and it melts down from there, so thats why my bottom half is still bigger than the top.
I started at 401 and wore a 30/32 with a 4x top and felt like it took forever for me to notice a change in my size. I'm 6 months out (yesterday), weigh 296 and am in a 24 pants - a little loose - and a 2x top. I can still wear a lot of my 3x tops and have been really utilizing the "tags still on" clothes in my closet ;>) I am buying pants some, ususally if I find a good buy on clearance and something to wear to church.
It just depends on how you carry your weight. I have lost weight proportionately, I have a slender frame with a nice set of hips. I'm 5'7'' around 204 lbs I wear a medium/large shirt and a size 12 or 14 in pants and dresses. Also it depends on how you like your clothes to fit you. I don't like baggy or loose fitting clothes (I wore enough of them at 380 lbs).
Also I did buy clothing at every size because once again I despise baggy clothes, but mainly I bought them because old clothes are just that - old clothes. I hate to see people wearing clothing from the 80s just because they are happy to fit in them again. Treat yourself for your wonderful accomplishment and that means buy yourself at least one up to date trendy outfit and every size - LOL
Not being mean this was just my two cents. Good luck.

Body types can be so different ...when I was your weight I wore a size 28 super-tight and a 2x top
I had a couple of frieends who either donated or sold clothes to me in different sizes.... I got a bunch of 22s, 18s, 14s and 12s from various people and didn't buy hardly anything in between. I just wore baggy clothes. I've bought my 10s and my one lone pair of 8s

~Lady Lithia~ 200 lbs lost!
March 9, 2011 - Coccygectomy!
I chased my dreams, and my dreams, they caught me!

It is weird isn't it? Like me, my top weight was about 311 and I am 5'10". I wore a 30/32 and those were getting tight.
I am an apple (carry most of my weight in my midsection) and it took about 3 months before I was actually down a pant size. The legs were huge and the butt baggy but because of the way I was shaped I couldn't fit into a smaller size.
Pants are actually still big for me in the legs and butt because I am losing the weight in my stomach last. Seems like a lot of us do.
One good thing is I can shop at stores like Target and Kohl's again and smaller sizes are not as expensive. So I chase the deals. And I shop at Goodwill, Disabled Veteran's Thrift stores and consignment shops. Consignment shops are still a little iffy. I think larger women may be embarrassed to bring their stuff in or because they are so expensive we wear them out.
I was never one to keep clothes that didn't fit anymore so I only had a few things when my size started going down. Now my entire wardrobe consists of about 15 pieces. I work in an office so I have to buy dress clothing first. I just bought my first pair of jeans since surgery last weekend at Target. On clearance for $13 (have mercy...I used to feel lucky if I got a pair of jeans for less than $30) and in a size 16!!!
Tops, I wear them longer since I don't have to worry about them falling down.
Which has happened with my pants. Thankfully never in public.

Which has happened with my pants. Thankfully never in public. I seemed to have drop sizes faster than the scale changed. I wore baggy clothes but my husband told me one day that wearing those baggy clothes made me look alot bigger than I was. I am like others I shop the clearance racks, Goodwill, second hand stores, etc. But I also had alot in my closet. I bought new cute summer clothes for my cruise that I had this past January and now none of them fit. So it seems I stay in one size for like a month.
I am with you on sizes though. Before my surgery my cousin and I weighted the same and she was only an inch taller. I wore a 22 she wore a 16...I dont get it!

Add into the body shape confusion the fact that different manufactureres have different ideas about sizing. That's why they always have sizing guides. there's no standard. I have been buying clothes lately, to a financiallly dangerous degree. It's my first big swap out. The clothes that went to Goodwill are all 24's and 26's, and I've bought a sload of 18's. Some of the 18's are loose, like the skirt I'm wearing now. Some are tight in the waist, but loose in the butt and thighs, like the jeans I'm sending back. I have a size 18 pencil skirt that fits perfect, and two size 18 blouses that are tight as heck, waiting for me to loose another ten pounds or so. They button, but they are unattractively tight. All size 18's.
And as of now, I'm 5'6" and weigh 192 pounds.
No butt, no hips, a thick waist, and *sniffle* no boobs to speak of - I went from a 44DD to a 40D. They just slowly collapsed, like a flan in a cupboard. (

) Im 5'4" When I was 279 I wore 22 pants and a tight 3x... Today Im 198 I can very comfortably fit in a 14 jean and a XL top. I do however have a few L tops that fit also...
I only shop clearance and second hand stores and I was wearing things that were way too big at first. Now I donate and pass my clothes on. If I put it on and it looks frumpy I get rid of it.
