Why we can't take NSAIDS

My doctor says that NSAID's can be taken by bariatric patients by suppository. 

How would that keep them from entering the blood stream and causing the lining of the pouch and old stomach to thin?

I just wanted to say Thank You for posting this!  Very interesting and informative.  I get chronic headaches and take Excedrin a lot....but post op, I'll SEE if just Tylenol works (hasn't in the past because I believe they are migraines).  If not, I'll asking for another non-NSAID.  :)

If they are migraines, chances are Tylenol won't do it.  But there are a number of migraine meds that are not NSAIDS so one of them will probably work for you.

My doc doesn't want me taking NSAIDS chronically, but says one every now and then is ok.  I have knee and ankle issues that kill me after exercise and when standing for long periods.  The day after a 4 hour band gig, I can hardly walk.  I've address much of the pain by buying a hot tub.  Soaking in it really help with the worst aches.  However, sometimes I do have to take an Ibuprofen.

I don't like the risk, but occasionally it's the only way to remain mobile.

I believe a hot tub would help my  back problems immensely.  It's out of my price range, though, plus I live in a mobile home so I'd really have no place to put it.  Although I joke sometimes about ditching my dining room table for a hot tub.

 thank you for posting this--look at this--I'm reading this just about one year later--and it's info I need!! I am a bit over 3 years out--and having some sciatica pain for the first time in a looong time.... I keep advil in the house for my daughter.... so here it is... and I  just kept thinking that "just one" this far out wouldn't hurt!!!!  But something kept telling me to wait! I went to a doctors on duty today--and the dor there INSISTED that I could take a shot of an nsaid... because it sn't the same...again... a funny feeling told me not to do it... so now... a couple of tylenols later.... still in pain...but glad that I didn't hurt my pouch. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for posting this and explaining it all so carefully!

What is interesting to me is to see that I was posting a lot about this a year ago just after having surgery on my tailbone. I'd talked myself INTO using NSAIDS as worth the risk. I was doing okay on them too. But a little later on last year, I was still using NSAID patches sporadically. My husband ended up being admitted into the hospital and I hate to drive (the hospital is 40 miles away) and dealing with that driving (on a still-sore rear end), taking the NSAID patches for my increased pain, and the excessive stress and it only took ONE NSAID patch before I was tipped over the edge and into the land of ulcers. It took SIX months before I healed up, and even then the slightest stress even withOUT the NSAIDS and I know I'm having acid issues again. I thought a year ago that it was a measured risk. But there's nothing like excruciating gut pain while trying to deal with a husband hospitalized and no local support system to help me out.

when it comes to NSAIDS, I say no. I have it listed now as an allergy with any doctor.
