Had Lapband Surgery 4 yrs. ago, now disappointed.
OK I need some advice. I had lapband surgery 4 years ago........unfortunately I gained back the 25 lbs. I originally lost. Now I am heavier than ever. I have an appt. to see my Primary Doctor this Friday....considerng having the Roux-en-Y Surgery. Just wondering if one didn't work....will this one help me. Thanks!!
It really depends on WHY you gained the weight back. With any WLS, you absolutely must make good food choices in order to be successful long-term. With RNY (or DS), it is pretty much impossible to NOT lose weight during the first 9 months or so while the malabsoprtion is there and you can only fit a small amount of food into your pouch (no matter what you eat). Once the malabsorption ends, however, and the pouch expands and can accommoddate more food, you will have to rely on the new, healthy eating habits that hopefully you learned during the first year in order to keep from regaining the weight. If you go back to eating the way you did before surgery, you WILL regain it.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I just had revision from Lap Band to RNY on 3/7/11... My lap band was always giving me problems. I lost 60ish lbs from vomiting and gained 110 lbs with the band. I would speak to the doctor about revision surgery. It just might be your back to your old habits with eating. I'm part of a really great support group online called Bariatric Angels.com. It's amazing. If you ever need really great support with people who are having the same issues.
You can always google it.
Keep me posted,
Cara
I also had the lapband 4 years ago (august 2007) and know exactly how you feel. I was sick of feeling like a failure with the band, even though it caused me so many problems and in the end did nothing to help me. I felt worse about not being able to lose weight after the band then I did before, because I felt like there I was with a weight loss surgery STILL not able to lose weight. I was sick of the issues, not being able to lose weight, and beating myself up. I reasoned if I could go through a surgery once then I could go through a second one that seemed from my research to be much more effective.
I got the revision done in January so I'm still getting used to everything but please let me know if you have any questions. It is nice having my port gone, that is one thing I am already very happy about! I'm about 20 pounds down in 2 months, not a huge amount but i will take it, since I hadn't lost anything the two years prior with the lapband despite my best attempts. Good luck in your decision and know you're not alone!

Same here...band in 2006 lost from 247 down to 197 for like 1 day and it was uphill since. I can say that the band helped me not gain as much weight with my last pregnancy as my pre-band babies, but in the end, I ended up weighing 243 on the day of my RNY in Jan. 2011. Today, I am 208 and I feel pretty good most days. It's a personal choice to have a revision and I would suggest you do your research and pray for the best procedure for you. RNY was enough for me so far.
I had a lap-band placed in 2006 and removed in 2010. I had my RNY 4 months later and in six weeks I have lost 37 pounds. I didn't lose that much in 4 years with the band. You should do a lot of research on the RNY. It's a completely different experience than the band and there is no room for testing the pouch like you might have been able to do with the band. I love it so far.
You are not alone...I got the lapband in 2008 and I revised to the RNY 12/28. I lost about 60 pounds but gained about 30 back before I revised. So far I am very pleased with my choice and how the RNY has allowed me to resume a normal life. Please do your research and make the best decision for you. The RNY is nothing like the lapband.
