Really Tired of Protein shakes, soup, and cottage cheese, suggestions?

I'm really questioning if I can hold out three weeks on this full liquid diet.  Everyday gets harder, not easier.  I've had the cream soups and cottage cheese.  Only thing I've missed is yogurt and have to go to the store.  I'm really worried that I'll yield to temptation and having something major that I'm not supposed to have.  And while we are on this topic, what is with the wide range of what doctor's allow?  Makes me question whether I really have to be this conservative.  But...I keep plugging along, trying to be compliant.  Any suggestions would be appreciate that might make this a little easier to wait out.  I still have ten days until I can have pureed.

I had two weeks of liquids after the surgery, It is very hard. I hated protein shakes, I hated cottage cheese, I got to the point at about a week and a half out that I wasn't eating at all. I called the nut and asked if I could move on to the next stage a few days early. She said give it a try and see how you handle it. I immediately made scrambled eggs and those eggs have NEVER tasted better! Now I don't recommend to stop eating, but you might call your nut and see what suggestions they have that you might be willing to try. I also don't recommend starting out with eggs as some people have problems with them, I was just one of the fortunate ones that had no problem eating them. Have you tried some of the SF puddings? how about making a pudding shake with protein powder in it? I used milk but you could do a little water/ice/pudding dry mix/protein powder and blend.  SF jello in the lemon/lime/orange flavors was different after surgery and gave a little relief.

It is frustrating that all the plans seem different and others, who are at the same timeframe you are can eat different stuff.  However, you need to stick to your plan, not someone else's.  Try different flavors with your drinks and your cottage cheese.  Yogurt comes in lots of flavors.  I tried every kind of soup there was that was on plan (tomato was NOT).  3 weeks is really a short time in the grand scheme of things.  Then there is the rest of your life.  Are you going to be willing to do what you need to do to lose and keep it off for the rest of your life?  See, 3 weeks isn't so long afterall.

I hear you.  I there with you.  My doc only requires 10 days full liquids but you will get through it.  I know I got through 2 week of a pre-op liquid diet and you can do this.  Try greek yogurt.  Get plain and then add splenda, cinnimon and vanilla extract.  Or Activia now has a light yogurt that met my NUTs requirment of under 10 g of sugar per serving (1/2 cup). Yogurt, SF pops and SF jello have gotten me through.  Never did the cottage cheese.  Not on my plan but I do want to try it since it has been years since I have.  Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate them.  I haven't tried the greek yogurt.  I think tomorrow will be a shopping day.  It has always been my intent to "stay the course", but I have really exhausted my current grocery stash, and I need something new.  The greek yogurt combo sounds like it could be really good.

I only had to do 7 days of liquids and now I am in week two of the puree phase.  I did fine with only one week.  All docs are different though.  I know it drives ya crazy but I just kept on thinking it is only a blip in my life and before I know it I will be eating regular foods again and chewing.  Man I cannot wait to chew something, LOL.  One thing that helped me is buying regular lipton chicken soup packets that you add water to and just draining out the noodles.  Broths can be so bland.  Also there is a good jello/greek yogurt receipe on world according to eggface.  Just switch it up as much as you can, that is what helped me the most.   Good luck to you.

I HATED the liquid phase.  I wanted to chew and eat sooo badly.  After day 7 I was done.   Greek yogart was a life savor.  Avocado is fantastic.  I was dining out after one week.  I went to P.F Chang and had won ton soup.  Soup but different taste.  Split pea soup with ham and bacon in a can BUT DIVINE.  You can make it thick or thin.    Decaf tea with a tad of honey and lemon was good.   By day 12 I had crab (in a sealed pack) and smoked salmon.  These two things were super soft and went down well.   I did not have eggs until I was nearly four weeks out but I had that with a turkey patty.  I CHEWED EVERYTHING REALLY WELL and measured everything into tiny tiny portions.
Now, a little over 4 weeks out,  the thought of food just makes me sick.  I can eat NOW  but I really see it as a chore now.   I just work very hard at getting in my liquids water, juice, etc. (no shakes...YUK).  Whatever food I eat must have a fair amount of protein in it.  Nothing else.
This period will be over before you know it.

I had 7 days of liquid then started on pureed foods. Try runny mashed potatoes, Laughing Cow light cheese, pureed beef stew or any cooked food that you puree to a soft and moist consistency. Greek plain yogurt or the Dannon diabetic yogurt with 2 grams of sugar is fine. Try Jell-o sugar free mousse cups instead of regular jello. Try sugar free ice cream pops or fruity frozen pops. Puree a can of refried beans and melt a tiny bit of fat free shredded ceddar on top. Serve with greek yogurt and a bit of salsa. Hang in there.

My surgeon seems to have a few different ideas about things. First, I didn't have a pre-op diet. Just clear liquids the day before surgery. Also, I had a post op appt at 1 week and my next appt isn't until 4 months post op. I can ALWAYS call and am encouraged to do so.

I was told to gradually add things as my new stomach pouch could tolerate. I was on full liquids for two weeks. However toward the end of those 2 weeks, I was nibbling at a scrambled egg and some cottage cheese. They tasted heavenly.

Now for a week tomorrow, I've moved to soft foods--tua and egg salad, crab salad, cottage cheese, puddings, yogurts.

My dr said when I'm tolerating all those soft foods well, to move on--but always remember the rule for protein and chewing, chewing, chewing!!! I'm scare to move to more solid food yet, so I'll just wait a couple more days. Eating normal food scares me--I'm afraid of what that normal food did for me in the past.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and the empathy!  I'll certainly be trying some of the suggestions.
