Today's public service announcement - iron and vit C

I don't know how long to wait.  With most things that shouldn't go together it seems like it's about two hours so I'd do that.  But I don't know that for sure.

I'm not aware of restless legs due to low iron but I guess it could be, just a less common symptom.

Thanks Kelly!  I will start taking my C with the Iron...I do have BA iron, and I was lulled into thinking since it includes C that is is probably enough, glad to know I need to supplement further.

Thank you for the info Kelly!

I was never told by my surgeon to take iron or vitamin ****il last month when my labs came back that I was anemic.  So, he told me to take Iron, but no C.  I do take Iron and vitamin C together, separate pills, along with my other vitamins in the morning. (I don't drink any caffeine)  Is it necessary for me to take an iron supplement that has C in it, or is it fine to take them together but separate pills?

Thanks! :)

It's fine to take them in separate pills, just take them at the same time.  Don't take the iron with calcium, though.  Calcium blocks the absorption of iron.

Hi Kelly,

The source of concern is D3. I take 5000 mg per day.. my D3 was low..35 i believe. I have heard the dry d3 is the best. I am taking D3 in a gel capsule soybean base. Should I just throw it away or continue taking it.? What else can I take with D3 to improve the absorption?

Thanks,

Michelle

Give it to someone else that needs it, someone that has not had RNY, and get yourself dry D3.  You will absorb it so much better.  And if your D was only 35, get a higher dose.  Get 50,000 IU (yes, really, that much) from vitalady.com and take it three or four times a week for a month or two.  Really.

There is nothing to take it with to increase absorption.  Just gotta take a lot of it, and make sure it's dry.

Well I'm due labs - just waiting on the paperwork to arrive in the mail from the doc so I will have orders for the lab--

But here's another question - numbness, not complete numbness, but just partial in various parts of the body - first the outside of my right leg, then the front of my left leg, now upper thighs..what do you think?

I thought B12 and upped my own sublingual drops.  Seemed to help, but not completely.  With the new added on locations, I'm getting concerned.

The labs soon will tell - but any more ideas so I might request additional labs?

B12, maybe B1 or copper.

Possibly not vitamins at all but a pinched nerve or herniated disc or something in the back.

No numbness in your hands?  You real tired, depressed, having trouble concentrating?
