Cake

So tonight I found a SF cake mix and icing and made cupcakes for my family. Has anyone tried the Pillsbury SF brand cake mix and icing? My hubby is about 9 weeks out and I am almost 6 weeks. I am craving something sweet and was wondering thoughts on eating a cupcake. It doesn't have much fat or sugar alcohol in it and the calories are fairly low, especially for cake.

I would avoid cake, or cupcake for at laest six months

I tried cake on my birthday, 9 months postop.....and boy I vomited like crazy.... it was awful because I was dumping AND stuck and I was miserable.

Even with being sugar free for both the cake mix and icing? Just curious. I have not tried any yet, I have had some sugar free mints and had no problems and also reduced sugar grape juice and orange juice and have not had any problems

1/2 my issue was the sugar/dumping

1/2 my issue was the bready spongey nature just clogged me right up and I was freaking miserable until it wasn't there any longer

I can't have cake...... the dumping aside.... because of the type of texture of the food.... early out you will be moer sensitive too, as your pouch is still teeny tiny

I just wouldn't

But I've heard of some non-fat cream cheese frosting that people use for that type of thing... you might make some and indulge in that.

Before I had surgery I had tried the sugar free frosting by Pillsubury. I didn't mind it. You can def. tell the difference but better than nothing. I have no idea about now with surgery though. I just found some sugar free cake recepies online today with cooks.com.

We all have different tolerances to sugar alcohols. For me, the sf cake and frosting would have me crawling under the table. And I have learned the hard way! No sugar added or sugar free baked goods are going to blow me up like a balloon and set my system awry for at least 12 hours. NOT worth it!

Were sweets a trigger food that led to morbid obesity in the first place?  If yes, they I would stay away.  They still aren't healthy.  Look at ingredients.  White flour, processed and additives.  Where's the protein, or complex carbs or whole grains??  Missing.

They are pretty much empty calories.  Don't fill your small pouch will junk.  Eat protein first - Always, then veggies, fruit, whole grain and milk products.  They will keep you sated and provide nutrition for healing, energy, brain clarity, etc.

I would wait until you are at goal and then if you want to add empty calories choose to do it then.

Cravings aren't emergencies and you can wait them out or just choose to say no- I'm choosing something that will bring nutrition, healing and health and energy to my body.  I'm worth taking care of.  It is a new lifestyle.  You can do this.

Best wishes.

I think it is too early for you to try this.  Sounds like you may be headed for the "slippery slope."  You might not have a good reaction to it.  Plus at 6 weeks out, you are still healing.  Why put junk in your pouch?  Resist the temptation.  It will pay off in the long run.

At 9 weeks out, I had a hard time reaching protein goals.... so focusing on basics is best.  Stick to the food lists that should have been provided by your dr./nut.

Personally, I have tried the pillsbury SF mix/frosting.  It wasn't my thing.  The cake was on the dry side and I didn't like the frosting.  Now -- the pillsbury SF brownies... another story.  Thankfully, I still have 3 kids at home, so these things don't last!
