Hello every one.  I am having surgery in the AM.  I am so excited and nervous and everything that goes along with this.  You all get it.  I am packed, but my damned knee won't stop aching.  I think i will have it looked at whenI get to the hospital. Post surgery of coursr.  Any way, I got a call from the hospital today to do my medication list and health history questionaire.  After going over all the meds and history the rep tells me i need to go to the pharmacy and get some surgical scrub and shower today and tomorrow with it.  I told her that I have been using Dial since Monday and was told by the surgeon that that was fine.  This cow told ne that I needed the surgical scrub because obese patients were MORE at RISK FOR INFECTION.  Hello, really ladie.  true enough MRSA is rampant right and EVERYONE should take precautions, but I just thought that was RUDE.  Geez, sorry to rant..

Bleh.  I'm having my surgery in the morning too and nobody said anything about using Dial or anything else this week.  But that was just rude.  If you've never been heavy (I chose to use that term instead of obese or fat), you just don't understand.

Good luck tomorrow!!

Sadly, the rep may have a point. Check this study out:

Of course, I was never told anything about this, and my surgery went just fine so...who knows? You might be better to be safe than sorry though. Best of luck to you, and I hope you have a speedy recovery!

I got the 2 scrubbers with soap and was told to scrub the eve before and the am of surgery. It has NOTHING to do with being obese. I know several people, family and friends who had to do this before their surgeries which weren't weight loss surgeries. That was rude and she obvi had no idea what she was talking about. Let it go and good luck with your surgery!!! :)

Well...I hate to say it but, she's somewhat right.

Think about it logically, many (though not all) obese people have rolls of fat. Whenever you have body creases where skin overlaps skin there is moisture trapping and an increased possibility of overgrowth of bacteria (not to mention yeast).

Would you rather be safe and use the scrub or be offended and risk a possible infection?

Well Willow, as a healthcare professional I know it is possible, however I still feel like she was rude.  And, further more, if I was already told what to do by the SURGEON, why did the admissions rep feel the need to go into detail about how she thought I should wash my fat ass.  I have been washing it for 20 years and manged not to get an infection.  And she knew this because she asked in a previous set of questions about infection of any kind.
