Losing my job today .... surgery on Wednesday
For me, I would guess it would depend on whether or not you have insurance thru this job. If you do, then I would go forward with the surgery as you'll still be covered usually for x amount of days. If you are a self pay, and you don't have any other household income, then I would save the money. Maybe a few more details and people can give you some better advice. I'm sorry about you losing your job. We are military and we've always had a steady paycheck. But, because the budget hasn't passed, we may have to serve our country with no pay until it's fixed. Bummer for us! But, am so thankful that we still have a job.
How much money will you have to pay? even tho its a difficult time i would still have the surgery now....As long as your not paying for the entire surgery out of pocket...To me it would be perfect b.c i wouldnt have to worry about when work wants me back...you would just need to start looking for a new job once you start feeling better and tell them i can start on this day. However your hormones will be all over the place and i guess stressing about a job afterwards would not help matters any!
I don't know your entire situation, but I would definitely go through with the surgery. You would be able to recover without the pressure of returning to work and relearn your eating habits and exercise and get things the way you wanted. At the very least, you could have a month before you'd start looking for a job.
What about unemployment, will you get that?
I would not go through the whole process again of trying to schedule the surgery and jump through all the hoops, honestly. Its like you are beginning a new life anyway, and what better time to start all over with your job, too. I wouldn't feel selfish either.

If your insurance is thru work i would def have the surgery now... if not all the preop stuff you have already done may need to be done again, requirments may be stricter or new insurance may not even cover wls. if its not to personal what is the reason your loseing your job? i only ask b.c you said you think your getting unemployment and the reasoning behind not having a job is impt with unemployment.
